Re: Tracking Unusual Instruments

Cockatiels. I used a ribbon mic (one of the Tape Op group buy mics). I never finished the project. I was going to do a fake New Age album with soothing classical guitar and rain sticks with the shrill hateful sounds of angry cockatiels. Thing is, my cockatiels would go into soothing, sweet songs whe...

It is a short scale bass with lighter gauge strings (low E string is .084 instead of .105 mediums.) I got it because I played a friend's Bass VI and love how many different and really great sounds you can get from it. I didn't intend to start using it as my primary bass, but something to get interes...

I recently bought a Fender VI because it sounds amazing as a bass. I still only use the E, A and D strings for the most part. I do feel like I should be ashamed, but when the room shakes like an earthquake, I can't bring myself to care whether I look like a douche.

Re: BMI, ASCAP fees = lose my gig

Try playing non-BMI/ASCAP tunes. That would be a noble effort, but in venues like restaurants where the patrons are eating and talking, the last thing they want is to be confronted with new songs. I know this sounds idiotic to musicians, but civilians are strange beasts indeed. Sadly, anything that...

Another hooray for the Fender Bullets. A friend had one of those strat body with telecaster neck and 24 in. scale ones. It was beautiful I was bummed when he sold it. Now he regrets it. Which brings me to my latest acquisition, an Eastwood SideJack Baritone DLX. It's being shipped tomorrow. To get i...

So Scodiddly, what you are saying is that in terms of quantifiable and adjustable parameters in the realm of recording, "Time has come today."

(sorry, it seems like every thread needs at least one quote from a song lyric and that was too juicy to not bite.)

Just a thought, it could be set using the omnidirectional pattern, and to quell some sibilance, they decided it sounded best off the top. LDC mics in omni often have some accentuated high end in some positions.

I'll try and post a pic of my friend's bass cabinet speakers, they are Hound-Tested, complete with the urine stain seal of approval.

Re: Waves goes to V6 finally

I also have an APA-44 connected to my G4 laptop. V5.97 was not at all compatible with this external unit. I only use the APA-44 in ProTools LE mixdown, for IR reverbs and stereo mixbuss comps (LinMb and L3). Hope that this will now work. Oh Oh it appears that my APA-44, costing me $1,200+ 1year 1 m...

How does one, voice an amp? What do you mean by that? If you are wondering what in the amp you can change to affect the sound, it all depends on what you want. Almost everything in the amp affects how it sounds, the circuit, the speakers and cabinet style. For instance, suppose you have an amp and ...

I don't know how reliable this is, I heard the round blue label 70's Fender speakers were CTS.

Another thing to check- see if it's a microphonic tube. Tap lightly on the tubes with a chopstick or pencil and see if the rattle happens. I spent hours with a friend's Mesa Boogie checking for mechanical rattles and it ended up being a tube. I could have sworn the rattle was mechanical.

good luck!

If so, we'll gather in Bloomington and have an intervention.
I'll bring my two desktop Macs. Neither of them work fully. I'll turn them on and we can watch the session disintegrate while the software crashes. That'll cure ya!

yeah, I wish people would clearly state what tones they like before launching into the old "this rocks" routine. That page is only good for general notions. There are so many factors involved with how a pickup is going to sound that it's nearly impossible to tell how it's going to sound until you in...
