Visit ABBEY ROAD Studio Two in person, March...

I haven't seen this posted here, forgive me if it's around, but I did a search and thought someone MIGHT be interested... It's the 80th Anniversary of Abbey Road studios this year, a loooong time for a studio to be in business. That's a lot of history, and they've asked Kevin Ryan and I to come lect...

Thanks Tom, did you just get one? All the domestic orders have shipped this last week and most have arrived. Glad you feel it's worth the wait, we'd prefer NO wait, but it happens when we reorder just before Fall, they are printing tons of books for Christmas season and it goes 3x slower in Sept-Nov...

As I've said to you in emails, I'll send you my last book here. FREE to you for the book or shipping, and I've asked if your card company DID cancel the charge or not. If not WE will make sure it's refunded first. Your grievances are solid and true, and helped us find out some things that were certa...

OK - here's what I found out. The mail had been coming in, all with the same question "When are books coming", which is something there was no NEW answer to (other than what is on the website already). So the webmaster had put up an AutoReply and it had somehow stopped after a few days. So no one go...

Hi Justine - this is Brian Kehew. One of the authors of the book. It WAS sold out - and the website said so, but some people did not notice and ordered books. It takes months to get them when they sell out. We've always offered people a refund IF they order a book and cannot wait. Even if they order...

Glad you guys made it. This was the first time we've had a public talk since our book was released. No one knew how popular it might be, so Kevin and I let AES (who proposed this) do most of the publicity. (Good thing we didn't do more, as unfortunately, a lot of people were turned away.) As it was,...

Hi - I just saw this thread. Your book was damaged, and while that is the fault of the shipping, we will replace it. The books almost always arrive in great shape, so it's not the fault of the packing. It is definitely rougher than normal handling. We want you to have a nice clean book (the "tape bo...

He was a close friend of theirs for a while in the late '60s. He is not as useless as legend has made him out to be. He had an electronics repair business before he met the Beatles. BUT he had very very ambitious ideas (usually based on other people's work) and told the Beatles he could do them. On ...

BTW - they used two mics on his amps (I know as I've seen the master tapes), one channel very dark and one kinda bright. Together, they make "that sounds" but not one by itself. The echoes were also 1/4" machine, especially as heard on "Eruption". They also used Compex limiters in addition to 1176. ...

There is NOT just reverb on the right speaker! I don't know why everyone keeps saying this. It's just masking - the guitar is on the Left and covers up most of the sound behind it, like the STEREO plate reverb they used! Not somethiung they planned other than they had a single guitar track panned ha...

Hmmm. I basically disagree. I think they were pushing boudaries of sound - not JUST HiFi tone. They were doing what later became popular (and had been on Sgt Pepper), which is modifying sounds. Astronomy Domine is really well-produced: it brings OUT that song you love, and the layered vocals are cho...

Yes, 1) It's very good. It is NOT a miracle cure. But it works well. It is ONLY EQ, so not true mastering (which may involve compression and limiting, and a smart, pro mastering guy knows how these three INTERACT). 2) It helps you most when your speakers are not "perfect" mastering speakers. You don...

At the moment, the books have sold out the first pressing - thanks to everyone who got one. There are several thousand more coming soon, but we don't know when. However, if you're thinking of one as a Christmas present, we'll at least send you some things to put under the tree... We just got home fr...
