things I've tried - placing a cardioid away from singer INSIDE a suspended ceramic hand drum so the mic faces the skin... made it very papery.. and had some very pronounced ringing harmonics - same thing with a carboy (large large glass bottle for making wine) ... more glass-y.. like being in a fish...

Seagate external drive, which model is it?
Hello I've been researching for a few days now which external hard drive to buy I'm looking for a 7200 RPM external drive, about 300 gigs, give or take I would like to record to it (using digi 002 rack) At first I was thinking I needed firewire 800 or it would be too slow, but now I've realized that...

hello I'm sure some of you are recording music for media other than CD music albums Specifically, I'm wondering, those of you involved in film/tv music, mono-compatibility... is it something to worry about? Should I be using mono-compatibile stereo micing techniques if I know the music will be used ...

Guess I should have asked, are you multi-tracking or are you mixing on the fly? I am multitracking, and am aware I don't have to use all the mics I set up... I'd just like to keep it simple when possible... I don't know how much time I'll have to set up, and we're dealing with a small room that bar...

I was thinking of omni just so that those off axis would be picked up alright ---- @?,*???&?, about talking to a nearby high school or space, I would but there are time restrictions and phy...

Orchestral Recording--Bad Situation--tips?
Hello orchestral recording people, Tuesday, I'm going to record an amateur seniors orchestra for a film I've scored... The orchestra practices in a less than ideal space, at least for recording (I think because they aren't funded or anything like that). It's just big enough to hold the 30-ish of the...

Oktava MK-101 for taming high end
Hello I'm interested in getting the MK-101 for the MK-012's I already have I'd like to capture very warm vocals... by warm I mean reduced highs... Yes, frequency response is the relationship between all the equipment and the performer and room, etc.. but I'm convinced my current mic is most "at faul...

did anyone mention homemade contact mics?
As far as mixing in colour, there's much experimenting to be enjoyed with them...
different parts of any vibrating anything! snares skin or shell, guitar cabs, ovens, walls, sternums

wait, part 2 of question
wait a second, so, from the description I just gave then, (1&3=ground/shield, 2=hot) I'll be using #5 from the table, right?
and that means I need to use a 2-conductor wire, right?

What a dummy! It was in the manual... sorry guys thank you for the technical answer Scum, I appreciate those kinds as it forces me to learn something, even if I understand it all at once For those who were in my same boat, here's the answer: For unbalanced output connections, the MPX-4Aii wants Pin ...

DIY XLR to TS confusion (Sytek to RNC)
There's another thread on here that touches on making XLR to TS cables, but I need to clear up something specific: I'm trying to build cables to connect my Sytek's balanced output (XLR) to my RNC's unbalanced input (TS) Looking at RANE's notes on interconnecting, I'm looking at the table attached fo...

Re: UniLim Mic Limiter
I know you dont think youll need an external mixer, Perhaps I didn't explain this well enough. I'm not talking about serious shoots here. I'm talking about one camera person, one director, one sound guy, one silly script, no budget. So, that means not buying a mixer because of no budget and because...

hyper cardioid stereo pair? why?
I just purchased a pair of oktava mk012's with six capsules I'm very excited about stereo mic'ing, but I'm wondering about the hypercardioids... I'll be using one for boom operating, but what will I use a matched pair of hypercardioid capsules for? I know you CAN use hypercardioid in stereo pairs, b...
