Re: How much gear did they use to make records in the 60's?
I agree with everything that been said, and I would like to add the idea that rock drummers are hitting EVERYTHING (esp. cymbals) much harder today when compared to drummers of yester year, Mitch Mitchell, Charlie Watts, Ringo, John Densmore, and even John Bonham... Amps have doubled and sometimes t...

Re: mic diaphragm cleaning, repair ?'s
Hey thanx for the tips. I have done the Hi-Lift mod, and for my voice I prefer the Mechanical HI-Lift... I think! Here is a note of interest... While replacing the lead wire I did screw it down TOO tight. For future ref. when the diaphragm starts to wrinkle, buckle under the pressure of the washer.....

Re: American made products
I personally look for equipment made by interesting people, rather than big corporations. Support interesting people. YES. I second this emotion. I like to look into the company ethos. It is great to find innovative NON-CORPORATE companies run by a handful of people that are PROUD of the product(s)...

Re: American made products
I was researching this a while ago and all signs point to JAPAN for the manufacturing center of AT mics.cgarges wrote:Sytek. API. Sontec. Avenson.
Audio Technica is based in the US. I'd like to think that their mics are made here but they're probably not.

Re: mic diaphragm cleaning, repair ?'s
So my message is: BETTER DON'T TOUCH IT!!!" Thanx, Joel. You give sound advice, unfortunately, I am just the type of person that really likes to open things up and hack away... I shall put all my available will power to work refraining from trying to clean the capsule. ON ANOTHER NOTE. Has anybody ...

mic diaphragm cleaning, repair ?'s
I have 2 oktava mk-219s that I have been using for YEARS. I recently read about some of the mods people have been doing, and that inspired me to open them up... I found that the Diaphragms are REALLY dirty! Does anybody know of a good site or book for DIY mic repair, cleaing? ALSO, I removed the Mec...

Re: Didn't Mercury Rev Record on Film?
I remeber reading the liner notes to one of those frst albums and being really awestruck by something along those lines (i was 20 and impressionable). ALSO, This is from allmusic.com: "...and eventually the group recorded a demo onto a reel of 35mm magnetic film." I know you can get Super 8 and 16mm...

Re: prince rumours
Prince carries ONLY $100 bills, and NEVER accepts CHANGE.
if his bill is $99.99 you get a penny tip.
if his bill is 101.00 you get a $99 dollar tip.
people waiting tables take note of this, could come in handy sometime!

Re: MIC Review: PPA LD-2ube
I want to add that I discovered that a elastic was not properly fitted into the shock-mount in a couple of places. Once properly in place it feels quite secure. I now agree the shockmount is of good build. I also agree with the what was said concerning vocals. for MY voice (which is the only voice I...

Re: MIC Review: PPA LD-2ube UPDATED
Ok, I have been using this mic (PPA LD-2ube) for almost a week now. Trying to use it as much as possible (doing the 9 to 5 in Manhattan, so still not enough!). I have recorded several songs, arranged for acoustic fingerstyle guitar and vocals, tracked with one mic, using both the LD-2ube AND the MK-...

AT 4047 owners, please...
any opinions on this mic for acoustic guitar and vocals? and what about for a reverb chamber mic for mixing? i am looking for something that has MIDS. i am sick to death of the scooped sounding mics (MXL etc...) looking for something with real character and ballsy mids. thanx in advance for any help...

Re: affordable flat response headphones?
Check out the Grado Labs prestige series. very affordable and pretty FLAT. these are NOT closed... but instead "Non Resonant air chamber" type headphones. In my opinion, this makes the bass response much less hyped, and easier to manage.

Re: Early Marley Vocal?
In his early days Marley recorded with Coxsone Dodd at Studio one (mono fulltrack). and then a bit later he made some of his BEST recordings with Lee Perry at Black Ark (4 track). Both of those studios were Lo-Tech compared what was going on in the states and the UK. You can read a great book called...

MIC Review: PPA LD-2ube
I chose the PPA LD-tube because it was the only mic in the $300 price range offering multiple patterns, tube preamp and transformer coupled output. It also had 30-day money back guarantee! The mic arrived promptly and well packed. The included case not too classy, but instead quite Top Secret styled...
