Forgive me but my memory is fuzzy and it has been 10 years since I have had my MS-16. Remind me but does the MS-16 have both RCA and XLR i/o?

I would think you could wire XLR to RCA cables to the console and not use the RCA input/outputs on the Tascam.

I had both. Both are fine choices. I think 1/2" tape is a little easier to find and cheaper. The TRS was unbalanced connectors and the MS-16 was balanced IIRC. One thing to consider is the audio cards in the MS-16 are modular so if one goes down you will only be down 1 track. Also from time to time ...

Re: AMR production series 1600 32x16 console

AMR production series 1600 32x16 console, sounds good and it works well, only problem is one of the buss channels is not working but I'm pretty sure is an easy fix. the whole thing is modular so you can still use everything else on the board. great console with a lot, (a lot), of routing possibilit...

I had that Tascam and really liked it. I did some good demos with it and thought it was punchy. For cheap you might look at an older Mackie VLZ 1604. The routing with direct outs are a great fit with the Tascam. I also like how the busses have inserts which makes it easy to out compression or EQ acr...

Does this have the remote? If not this is not such a hot deal. I would offer $600 without the remote. I have seen the remotes pop up from time to time. Does this have the noise reduction feauture? I had a MS 16 and did some good stuff with it. It never gave much trouble. Some of the channels would g...

I also use an HD24 and here is what I do.

I use a Line 6 Toneport plugged into the laptop as the interface. From there I run the analog outs from the Line 6 into a decent pair of mic pres. I then either run straight into the HD24 to record or sometimes into a miced guitar or bass amp.

That's it... My wife is gonna kill me, but I'm gonna buy another analog deck on ebay! :D I gotta say the Otari MTR 90's sure have attractive prices right now. One sold here locally a few weeks ago without remote for $1,200. I have seen clean examples for as little as $2,500 including the remote.

I too have a lonely 512 in my lunchbox.

I use it on about everything and it is for sure my swiss army knife in the drawer. I mated it recently with a Rode NTK tube mic on female vox and the tracks came out very nice.

+1 I miss my old MS16 too :( As far as the punch outs I never heard much of an issue once the entire mix was going. Vox were the toughest though. Great sounding recorder though. What I miss most about the old MS 16 is if a channel become flaky you could pull the card and blow on it (like the old Nin...
