Re: using 2 track tape machine as part of drum tracks?

interesting - could you do any overdubbing with this set up (was there latency?) or only all at once live tracking? You can overdub while monitoring to your DAW tracks. It's similar to recording to tape, then later dumping to DAW. You're dumping as you record and the latency is compensated for usin...

Re: using 2 track tape machine as part of drum tracks?

I used to have a "hybrid" setup where I would record to tape and dump to DAW while monitoring from DAW tracks, without SMPTE. - Set your tape machine to record, and set the output to playback (i.e. playback what's being recorded). - Play a "blip" from your DAW, run it through the tape machine, and r...

I've used Voxengo's latency compensation plugin for this. Calculate the delay time going from your DAW to the tape machine and back. Set the Voxengo plug to that time and enable it on your tape inputs. You can then record directly to tape and have it automatically dump into your DAW. it's not perfec...

Synth/organ sound ID

I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to "synth" sounds, but can someone ID the synth (or other instrument) used to make the 1/8 beat harpsichord-like sound in the background starting at 38 seconds: https://youtu.be/ZQymIuVxrv8?t=38s I've heard it before. Can't place it. Sounds really like a harpsi...

I'm totally guessing here but it seems like an old Sears-brand hollowbody (Harmony, Silvertone) through a Fender Princeton or an old Ampeg guitar amp.

It seems like the Daptone guy uses the same guitar every time I see 'em.

One of my bands had lots of fun recording a tow chain during our last EP. The damn thing weighed at least 75 lbs! We dropped it into a plastic bucket and recorded with a 414, then triggered it with the snare mic.
