Did we really need that much verb on the drums on Doolittle? I'd like to find out. Yes indeed. I had this same thought about Bossanova just a few weeks ago. Timeless material, but a little hard to listen to now in a way that, say, "The Joshua Tree" is not. Speaking of which, the latest U2 does have...

I've done this kind of thing a few times in my kitchen, using a small Peavey guitar practice amp. Just for one instrument, usually a vocal. Sounds really cool if slightly distorted and then delayed to create a slapback. Obviously not for the whole mix if you're going for transparency. Another fun on...

It's Albini approved, if that means anything to you... bob weston used to like 'em as overheads too. I don't think I've ever used these as overheads. They DO sound excellent on some guitar amps, bass amp (awesome on a bass amp speaker, even a 15"), and cello. I've used it on snare too, I think. bob...

I might, for example, push the low mids going into the comp just to get it squishing and crunching the way I want, and then pull those same frequencies out afterwards, to get back to a more usable tonal balance. This leads into the idea of actually sidechaining the compressor so that it's reacting ...

Re: 2-channel S/PDIF AD/DA?
Thanks for the tips! One more thing: when you're tracking through your outboard S/PDIF converter at the same time as your digi002r inputs (say you were tracking drums and put the overheads through an RME or Apogee, and everything else through the digi inputs), do you find there are any latency issue...

2-channel S/PDIF AD/DA?
Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent 2-channel S/PDIF AD/DA? I have a Tascam 2488 (24-bit, 44.1kHz) and use external mic pres exclusively (Meek VC6Q, Studio Projects VTB1, '80s Studiomaster console), and I'm also occasionally tracking on a Otari 5050 1/4" machine and dumping it onto the 24...
