Get quieter, more efficient fans and try reducing the voltage going to the fans so it spins at a lower rpm. MCI JH24's used to do this. IIRC, they ran their fans at about 90-95v

I tuned my Rhodes for 15 years, until I finally sold it. Easy as hell. Much easier than a Wurlizter. I'm kicking myself in the ass for selling the Rhodes though.

I don't go much for Sweetwater. I had some trouble with them about 15 years ago and I won't deal with them again. Enough said. I think Sweetwater's business model is for folks that are not sure what they want. Do your homework, pick the gear you want and get it for the lowest price possible from whe...

If they are the same, what is the difference between an A and B taper? Is one linear and one audio?

I may just dust off my Core 2 Duo PC and give up on the Mac if Win 7 works this good. I'll wait for the release date though.

You may not have enough bias voltage to align the 3340S to the newer tape formulations. I got mine aligned to 456 but was not able to get enough overbias for 499. I sold it years ago. DBX Type 1 would be the NR unit of chice for the machine, but the calibration has to be right on the money or it'll ...

Maybe you'll get lucky and the company will release a dual version of the IC. The 500 series used 2002 IC's not 2001's

It really depends on the project. When I record myself playing any kind of electronic instrument, I use MIDI. Other than that, it's usually audio. On remote projects, I use virtual instruments and bounce them to audio before returning the parts.

i apologize for being rude. Though you've been working on these machines for as long as I have, with proper care, I have never destroyed a DA88 or DAT machine's heads using tech wipes. Lets leave it at that. I do have a stash of the Tascam cloth where I work but I always grab whatever it is that's h...

Cut a small piece of a very fine bed sheet and it will be as close to the "recommended" cloth that Tascam recommends to clean DA-88 drums as the real thing. The important part is use more alcohol and not a lot of pressure. I work for a video facility now, and I'm known for cleaning drums while they'...

The problem with this forum is people respond somrtimes without REALLY knwing what they are talking about.Take it all with a" Grain of salt". Well, as far as tech wipes go, I've been cleaning helical scan machines for going on 30 years now, including the 25 years I spent working for Sony fixing tho...

Don't be afraid. Don't use q-tips. Get something called a tech (or text) wipe. Load it with alcohol, and spin the head, I go clockwise. Some video machines generaly go counter clockwise, but I think DATs go clockwise. It reall doesn't matter. Apply the tech wipe with alcohol and spin the head around...

Jonathan, In my 110C manual, its 5oz on each side of the capstan for 1/4" tape. What width tape are you using? Its 5 1/4oz for 1/2" and 5 3/4oz for a 1". You should only concern yourself with the tensions on both sides of the capstan. I also noticed in the section before the tension adjustment you n...

I'll check my manual when I get home, since when Sony took over MCI, everything was measured in grams not ounces. If I remember correctly, tensions should be measured on each side of the capstan and should be somewhere around 120 grams. This translates roughly to 4.3 ounces. On the 110, you don't me...
