I vote for the Prodigy as well. Great for bass. And great for noise too, get it self-oscillating and you can make some crazy stuff happen. If you're new to synthesizers like you say it's nicely laid out for learning, simple enough to really understand exactly what's going on. The Micro-Korg is very ...

Right, that wasn't very clear. I'm picturing Malkmus coming up with that sound...do you think he was jamming on a blue cheer riff in high school and noticed that that super compressed fuzz was a great tone for slacker style jamming too? Or did he at some point hit a bunch of chords while playing wit...

fuzz factory, blue cheer, stephen malkmus
an interesting thing I happened upon last night...I was recording a guitar part and wanted that super fuzzed out blue cheer kind of tone. I messed with my zvex fuzz factory til I got something pretty close. Then I noticed while I was just goofing around with the same settings, playing harmonics and ...

Re: M-audio Oxygen 8 midi keyboard
Mine still works fine. Have you tried using the power adapter, and just using USB for the connection to the computer? Might help. The ON/Off switch is weird, center position is OFF, slide left is AC power, slide right is USB power. If you're sliding it left without an AC adapter plugged in, nothing ...

Re: Anybody using Logic 7 yet ?
I'm using an mbox with/ Logic Express. Pretty fun so far. The plugins that come with it work way better than those that come with protools (I'm just working on my own stuff on the side, and can never justify buying software plugins, so that's great for me.) Guitar Amp sounds good, but not good enoug...

Re: Beer Suggestions
Anything from Bell's is the greatest, esp. Two-Hearted Ale...super strong but sneaky about it. Anchor Steam is pretty good too. For you Pilsner Urquell lovers, Staropramen is pretty easy to find too, and just as good, a little different, though, for when you're bored. But Budvar from the tap in a ba...

Have any of you danecho fans tried the Danelectro reelecho? I saw someone using 2 of them for vocals and trumpet once and it sounded amazing...haven't seen them at a store yet, though...

Re: Effect Pedal Decisions: Delay & Reverb
the Line 6 delay is a monster. But I love the Akai Headrush...great tape echo with an output for each tape "head." (try it with 4 amps.) tap tempo, easy to use sampler. Some great digital craziness at extreme settings, too. I think there's a newer one with longer sampling times now. Now, if you hade...

Re: gmail invites
Am i right in thinking it scans your e-mails for keywords and then hassles you with junk mail or something similar? Vaguely recall reading something about it. Not junk mail, but it displays text ads based on keywords in the text of your emails. So if your friend sends you news about whether the rec...

Re: "real people music"
who calls it "real people music?" i imagine the same people who wear trucker caps and drink pabst to feel blue collar. calling it that betrays the speaker's desire for the mythical american authenticity. is anthony braxton to be looked at as a "real person" or "outsider" for making noise? what abou...

Re: "real people music"
There was an incredible exhibit of "outsider art" here in Chicago a little while back, with a lot of Darger stuff. That guy was amazing. He wrote like a ten thousand page novel about the weird little girls he painted. There's a lot of music out there these days that's influenced by outsider stuff, b...

Re: Any Suzuki Method former scholars out there?
I remember listening to those LPs with the little red designs on them while I went to sleep...every...single...night. I think it drove me crazy after a while. Around 3rd grade I said I'd had enough with piano and asked to start playing guitar. Dad made me take classical guitar...looking back I can s...

in-ear love
Got some shure E2C in-ear phones for xmas to replace the crappy ipod earbuds. I gotta say, if you haven't tried out in-ear phones, you should check them out. Once you get the right plug on the end to seal your ear off, the effect is almost surreal. With an earbud you get the effect of having 2 annoy...

Re: Is reason worth the money?
REason is very good and a lot of fun but I'm not sure it really is worth the money, since you need another DAW to make the most use of it, and most DAWs have plugins and such that do a lot of what Reason does if not quite as elegantly. But if money isn't so important, and you have time to learn it, ...
