Ardour is a great program for mac and linux, i use it on ubuntustudio linux with an echoaudiofire 4 its great for just audio no midi. the effects it has plate reverb, limiting, compression and eq, sound great even without a fancy gui .. what i wish it had is vst and vsti midi plugins to work in it ....

+1 for echo, i also want to say i owned a presonus firebox and i noticed my recordings had a slight whine, thought it was computer noise but it was the firebox, ( so i replaced it) tried out an apogee duet n echo audiofire4, i returned the apogee duet, echo makes good stuff they just dont advertise ...

google asio4all .... its a driver you can use with all soundcards, then get back with us if it workout, n yes get an audio interface when u can spare the cash !!

+1 on the echo interface and reaper, also your echo interface comes with a free daw software download tracktion 2 which is super easy to figure out !! get you some 2x shure sm57, n some headphones n your in business

you could buy both the echo n apogee products n see what all the hype is about, and then return the one you don't want. i bet i know which one will be returned !!

yeah.. i finally got the presonus firebox kinda working.. using the 64studio live distro... gonna download the real version now... im having problems hearing the audio on playback in ardour.. i dont think its the latest version of ardour... i got ardour working real well on my entry level macbook us...

i cant figure out how to get my firewire audio device to work, seems complicated from what i ve been reading, im no computer programer.. they need to figure something out wih the firewire driver stuff imho .. :?

there was stuff on the old forumn i miss.. like the applications.ex what mic on what instument placed this way or that way.. very creative stuff.. with out sluting over gear.. people could learn alot off those old threads..
