Does anyone out there have any snippets or samples of tracks recorded with AKG D12's.
I have one that's been sitting for a while, and I think it may not sound right. But I'm not sure that I've ever heard a good one....
?
Thanks.

I use the Demeter from time to time. It's a dry sound, but roughly equivalent to a close mic-ed closed-back cabinet. I think mine has a Vintage30 so it's got that sound. I don't notice any funny sounds coming from the cabinet itself. I usu. use it with a JTM45-ish marshall for tracking, and I still ...

Free/Cheap DIY and misc
For the DIY ppl, 7 raw Yamaha PM700 input modules, 2 input transformers missing. Input transformer is the small Tamura 600/3k (GA8027), Opamp is TA7136P (3 per strip), eq is 3-band discrete with inductors. Runs off at least +/-15V, maybe more. Some length of flex cable from the console and lots of k...

Interesting. I had 2 of these and modded them both. Of course I stopped after the first and did listening tests. The unmodded one was totally unacceptable for what I do. I've since moved on to other DIY stuff but I was usually happy with the modded units in a variety of rock tracking roles. I guess ...

you're using TRS connections everywhere? Do the cables pass the wiggle test everywhere in the signal change? (grab the body of the plug and wiggle and listen for crackles). Have you cleaned every contact in the signal chain with some kind of De-oxit? My experience with TRS to the power amp (combo ja...

ok, here's some equal opportunity slagging: 1) Most AC30's overheat like a sum'bitch 2) Fender tag-board amps can have mystery noises and ticks due to variances/wear on the tag-board itself that can come and go with temp and humidity 3) Hiwatts can hurt your ears bad... 4) every example of <insert f...

A good friend had a Triple Rectifier that really didn't suck. If you like that sort of thing it could really punch you in the face. Not buzzy or thin in the mids--in fact it sounded huge even through a single 4x12. Plus it's a head so there's less vibration/heat on the PCB. It was definitely powerfu...

"classic EL-34 Brit sounds" = 50w JMP plexi* with 4x12 greenbacks. (i.e. AC/DC) *sometimes this means a 45w JTM plexi which doesn't even have EL34's in it's normal form as opposed to something like 'classic british blues tone' which equals a very specific model of Marshall combo. (i.e. the Bluesbrea...
