Sorry
Forgot the golden rule. I'd like to spend around 1K for 2 EQ if I could. Might have to go with a good mixer. But I'd had to bypass the Great River pres for a mixer. Ugh....

So I'm looking for some EQ
I have a couple of Great River pres. They sound great. I'm recording in Pro Tools LE. But I'm getting damn tired of trying to clean up EQ things after the fact. For instance, guitar. I'd rather fix this before I record it. The low rumble you get with a louder amp. I'd rather fix it before it goes do...

Good on you
Nice response, AstroDan. I. like you, have never achieve a bass tone I'm truly in love with. I have nice equipment. Definitely nailed great tones in guitar, drums, vocal. I've accomplished many sounds base-wise that I tolerate and even sometimes enjoy, but I've never gotten that sound that really ex...

Interesting
Where did you find this J-M-I amp? Do you have any links to information about their products? Ultimately I'd probably like to find a boutique amp maker that would make a clone for reliability reasons. I know the Bogner Metropolis is supposed to be a AC30 clone, as is many Top Hats, etc. But again, I...

Hey Macrcocet
Did you experiment with different tube makers? What works well for you in these?
Thanks

Voc AC 15
Been thinking about buying one of these. Love the Rick sound into a Vox AC30, but I just don't need that much volume for recording or playing live. Anyone used these? Are the older English versions much better than the Chinese? I've heard the Chinese actually sound better. I can only play the Chines...

Is it just me?
I'm an Indie guy. I'm an alt-country guy. I'll say that to just clarify that I prefer this music over most. But, I can't believe the difference in quality recordings when comparing some very talented indie artists over the vast, vast majority of major label superstars. Someone mentioned Spoon, and t...

Not sure
Not sure what the mid-side technique is? Please explain. Also, any recommendations on overhead mics? I know people talk about Octava's, Shure SM81s, Studio Projects C4s, Rode NT5s, etc. for this price range, but I've heard most of them are somewhat bright. Not sure I need more high end, and I defini...

Response
I use Great River pres on the overheads. I just figure that's the signal I'm having the most trouble with, so I should probably use my best pres on them.

Overhead questions
I've recorded a couple of albums for my band and I've been pretty happy with both albums, second being better, of course. I can even get a good drum sounds even though I'm recording in a dead basement setting. I'm ready to record our next album and need some advice. Recording into Digi002 with some ...

Any Great River ME-1NV users?
I have one and it seems strange that I have to use so much gain on it. I'm sometimes pushing 55DB of gain for regular condensors. Almost always pushing 50DB. Also, I don't much reaction from my "output" or "cal" dial. Doesn't seem to affect the volume much nor the sound. Is this common for you? Thanks

Thanks
Interesting comments. That's why I ask. Is it worth it to buy this stuff? For me, I have Waves plugs and am working with Digi 002. Is it really worth shelling out the cash to buy this thing when my plugs can get me where I need to be? Would I be better of spending money on other things I do need? I ...

Reverb--plugs or other?
Thinking about taking the plunge on a Lex PCM91. All I need is reverb. It's for vocals and guitar mainly. I have plenty of pedals I like for modulation. In fact, I rarely put anything on my voice, but I've heard the Lex verbs and they're nice. It's sad because I'll only use around 10 and that seems ...
