Re: Please critique my rough mix.

Hi, everybody. Sorry to keep you hanging on. Craziest. . .week. . .ever. Thanks for the encouraging words! (and hey again, Odsus! How've you been?) Yes, I did produce this track; played and recorded all the instruments myself. I was going for a White Album/McCartney sound. It was recorded and mixed ...

Please critique my rough mix.

Hi, everybody. I posted the instrumental version of this a couple of months ago, when I first did it, but we recorded the vocals yesterday, and I'd love to get some responses, and know what i need to focus on when I do the actual mix. i think the bass is a little low. That's already been changed. :-...

Re: If you like the Decemberists, read this.

Addendum to this post: The very next day after I posted this, I was listening to NPR, and there was a story about a guy who LOVES Amsterdam, and he was there hanging out, seeing "American group the Decemberists on the last show of their European tour." He stopped talking and let the tape play for a ...

Re: If you like the Decemberists, read this.

Re: which album to buy, they're both great. The second one (that Larry recorded) does sound far better than the first, and there are plenty of stellar songs, but I find myself skipping a few of them. The first album I can listen to all the way through. So it's a bit of a trade off, but not much. Eit...

If you like the Decemberists, read this.

I just got back from seeing a Colin Meloy (the singer/songwriter for the band) acoustic solo show. It was a cool show, but there was something else about it that I've been trying to put my finger on all night. Hopefully I can do it justice. I'm a huge fan of the Decemberists. In this case, they're f...

Re: Good cello music?

Jorane.

Just found out about her. She looks and sounds kinda like Bjork, but she plays the cello and sings in French at the same time. Very cool.

What Did You Work On Today? 12-9-04

I listened to a web cast of 1940's French songs while I read a 14-page (at last count) thread on the Metallica guitar sound. I laughed. I cried. This is what keeps me coming back to the TapeOp Messageboard. This evening i'll be tracking some cello overdubs, and possibly playing some too. It's going ...

The new incarnation of a PDX band is looking for. . .

. . . a percussionist/drummer who isn't afraid to get by with less. Use a small kit, use weird percussion instruments rather than (or in addition to) most of the kit, and hit with her/his hands, brushes or rods. a bassist who plays both upright and electric bass. 5-string is a nice option too. a cel...
