Re: Hi-quality problem regarding snare

Yeah man, totally.... if you think it sucks then it sucks. I actually prefer a mic on the top head and one on the shell ,rather than one on top and one on bottom. This works better for me, but I've had lot's of people try and convince me to top and bottom mike the snare but so far I'm just not a con...

Re: recommend a movie to rent

The Fog of War Totally. Great documentary. Fantastic. Also, seen very recently due to long summer holiday: Pink Floyd "Live in Pompeii" (Before Roger got all upset about his childhood) Metallica "Some kinda Monster" (So good. No, really, it is!) Dr. No (Ken Adam sets, Sean Connery's brogue, Ursula ...

Re: Favorite Albums of 2004

They are: Isis - "Panopticon" (Why has no-one mentioned this yet?) Battles - "B EP" (Surely this is the supergroup of 2004) The Icarus Line - "Penance Soiree" (I keep raving about this and no-one seems to listen...) The Secret Machines - "Now Here Is Nowhere" (Now that is what a kick drum sounds lik...

Re: Need New Guitar Amp: brutha's recommend!

Okay... totally over the top expensive suggestion coming up... You want a Divided by 13 ERT 33 ( http://www.dividedby13.com/ert33.html . Hand wired, point to point, two discreet channels, 4 EL84s - very Vox-y, but with more versatility and low end. A Matchless? The DC30 is kinda the same but buy a M...

Re: Dave Grohl/QOTSA: recording technique. true?

Dave said in a recent interview with Modern Drummer that yes, the kit and cymbals were recorded seperatly. He used pads where the cymbals would have been, and having already worked out his parts beforehand simply overdubbed the cymbals afterward. Can I just say - well, of course I can, cause it's a ...

Re: Best guitar amp for bass uses (Traynor or fender)?

Do you really wanna stick with either a Traynor or a Fender? If it was me, I'd get a Matamp (the old Orange amp guys with a few new twists). One of the 120/140W ones will make sick guitar doom/stoner/ultra-loud stuff and will be able to handle bass duties no worries. You can visit them here at http:...

Re: Need suggestions for studio drum kit

I concur with everything Chetatkinsdiet has said. About eight years ago I got a nice green laquer stain birch kit from a major drum company, added RIMS mounts, bought big butch hardware and went through a new Black Beauty, an Austalian jarrah-block snare and a Sonor Designer series snare. The kit wa...

Re: when do YOU bottom-mic a snare?

I disagree. You're hearing a helluva lot of that bottom head action in the room. You're even hearing that bottom head through the top head, which is paritally why, depending on many things inculding top head density and tuning, that the top mics can get so much of the bottom... Whether or not you w...
