the house we rent south of phoenix has another house next to it which is kind of ruined. I've been recording over there and gradually improving it with pieces of plywood and so forth. mostly usual suspects for recording I think. a lot of time spent fixing things that I could have avoided by just doi...

if you don't record all that often, maybe it would be good to get something which you can use when you're not recording, like an instrument or a guitar pedal or something.

here's the actual link for the contact page for digital access problems: http://tapeop.com/contact/email/dave-middleton Not an "issue" for me, since I have TapeOps going back to Neutral Milk Hotel and OP8. Man, those were the good old days. It was nice to see Larry Crane finally reflecting on how mu...

wow - the Tape Op Messageboard giving a collective "ehh" to recording on 4-track cassette.

The times really are changing. I would never have thought I'd see this day come...

I did this with a MicroKorg once. I'm not sure if I did a bandpass filter with cutoff set to track the keyboard, or possibly used the vocoder somehow... anyway it's possible with a Microkorg. it's the last minute or so of this old thing: http://horsesaw.com/RbyR/Saw_Horse_-_Raised_By_Robots_12_-_In_...

so, a few years on now.... It would make sense to me to have a slow, low power HD for bootup and storage, and an SSD for "in progress" tracking and mixing projects. But I've read other people making the SSD the boot/apps disc and spinny drives as audio drives, which seems counterintuitive to me, bu...

I like this. I hear a bit of Pullman in it, which is one of my favorite sounds. I like the drums, the way it transitions from acoustic guitar tunes to big stuff, and the pace. I like your process, too - I think it lets ideas grow past their initial impulses.

FS: Drawmer DL251 $375

I have a Drawmer DL 251 Compressor for sale. This is the Drawmer VCA compressor with a spectral enhancement circuit to make up for dulling of sound due to normal compression activity. It's in fine condition, a few scratches, the front is in great condition, no functional problems of any kind, and so...

I realized that the hum from a power conditioner I had stopped using was from the transformer for the lights, which I never used, so I disconnected them and now have humless power conditioner... also I took apart an old computer - mostly without breaking it - in preparation for building a new one th...

FS: Focusrite Penta - Mic Pre / Stereo Compressor

Bought this here a few years ago. The Focusrite Penta combines a decent mono microphone preamp with a stereo compressor. The mic pre has a DI and a high pass filter. The compressor uses a "preset" system, in which a simple press of a button can change several parameters at once, offering great start...

What kind of space is that? I like the balance between direct and reverberant sound. I think my favorite recording of the cello suites is the Pierre Fournier one on Deutsche Gramophon (the old Casals one is my favorite judged on performance alone though). The meaty body of the cello comes across wit...

i bought a bunch of new, unlabeled 20 minute type II cassettes online from some place - i can't find it but it was posted on another thread here. I haven't actually used them yet though - can't get the computer off my back... They seem fine though. I'm surprised not to have heard of anyone making he...
