It looks like any new Beyer M260 that I've seen so far. The old grey ones from the '70s were probably a bit bigger.

I just got my new Radial X-amp yesterday. I haven't tried it out yet but the whole better-than-this-or that discussion when it comes to re-amping made me curious about the influence of the DI box that I use to record dry guitar or bass signals. Are the DI inputs on my RNP or my Focusrite 428 "good" ...

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly do you consider a good deal for a SM7 to be? The cheapest price for a SM7B that I found over here in Europe was about 750 USD (499 EUR).
350 dollars for a quality vocal mic is a very good deal in my book.

I've tried a couple of different tubes in my MD1a and eventually went back to the original Groove Tubes 12AT7. The two 12AX7 (Mullard and Siemens) I've tried were distorting pretty early on loud sources and the NOS Valvo 12AT7 just sounded dull and lifeless. A friend with a metal work shop built a ...

Why not? I have written a dissertation in English linguistics on "linguistic aspects of recording engineer's language" and used lots of data (language) from message boards.

I've seen a short clip about those on youtube. From what I remember the mics were way above my budget.

Of course it's not the best testing method out there. I'm not a microphone tester. The test gave me a rough estimation of how closely the mics are matched. The capsules where about the same distance from the speaker and about two inches apart from each other. I've done similar tests with other mic p...

I have one of each and I know that they don't sound identical. Last year I put them next to each other and recorded a 3 ft distant electric guitar cab. Then I matched the volume and flipped the phase on one of them and they didn't cancel each other out. They sounded pretty similar when listening to ...

Instead of buying new mics I think I should have all the broken stuff repaired and get rid of gear that I'm not using. I'm thinking about having a couple of mics modded by Michael Joly. What I really want is a Shure 520Dx and a SM7. I borrow those from fiends quite frequently. A second GT MD1 would ...

Beyer will replace the guts with the same parts that were always in that mic. I can understand your feelings about a vintage mojo, but the sound of a ribbon mic doesn't improve over the course of a couple of years. I had two of my Beyer ribbon mics re-ribboned by Steve Sank (M260 and M500) and they ...

I have I BF Bandmaster and play it through a 2x12" with Celestion G12M Greenbacks. It's not the typical BF sound but it sounds alright.. As far as I know BF cabs weren't loaded with alnico speaker. Looking at the new Jensens, the closest match to the original '60s speakers might be a C12Q: http://ww...

Last week I've tried a couple of different mics (M88, SM7, M160, AT4033, 441) on a AC30. None of them sounded bad but the guitarist was really picky and I ended up using a Beyer M260 that was modified by Steve Sank. The 441 sounded pretty good as well.

Have you considered FMR Audio's RNLA? I have two and took them with me to a couple of FOH gigs and they worked pretty well on snare and the drum bus.
They are in you're price range.
