making recorded drums sound like a drum machine

hey guys what's the best way of going about making well recorded drums(mics on every source, room mics, overheads) sound as close as possible to sampled 80's style dry drums a la Hard to Explain by the strokes. oh yeah, and the processing has to be done in the box. i know that it requires some fiddl...

+1 for reason i haven't upgraded to 4.0 yet but i'll share my thoughts. the previous poster was dead on about sounds. i've seen a pattern of people who bash reason come from the old school (mpc,asr10, etc) method of production. i never did- i came from a live musician background- so i think that hel...

Bad Cat 2 tone. that's it. 2 channels. one clean that can get a nice ac30ish overdrive. the other is high gain that can get you anywhere from nice marshall tones to that hard to get qotsa sound. i've had the chandler tube driver and mesa vtwin. neither can hold a candle to this pedal. peace.

got the hamptone tube pre. simply put, it's great. gives no ground against the big boys. i've pitted it against avalon, calrec, and some others and it's been as good or better in all applications.

Hamptone Compressor

Looks like he's finally going to put a kit out this summer. i'm really anxious to hear how it sounds. if it sounds half as good as his pres, i'm thinking instant classic!

I guess what i want to know is specifically given the differences in design topology(tranformer v transformerless) what difference in sounds can you expect between these two pres.

i second the bill lawrence pickup and callaham bridge suggestion. for about $200 you have a strat whose sound is exponentially better than any modern stock strat that fender makes. once i did those two mods on my american strat, i haven't even had the itch to touch another guitar. call bill lawrence...
