Re: General questions about echo and Nebraska

I'm wondering if anybody has been able to record vox and acoustic at the same time and then add some slapback to vocals later. Yup. There needs to be some real seperation there from the tracking stages, using figure 8 mics and getting the unwanted stuff into the null works well enough that you coul...

I've listened to this recording over and over and still don't understand the hype from an engineering perspective or even a songwriter's perspective. i agree with several of the responses to this post so far. there isn't anything technically impressive about how it was recorded, but it has an intan...

I personally think it's a sorta half-assed masterpiece. Half of it is just incredible, the other half simply incredulous. I mean, "Mr Kite", "Good Morning", "Lovely Rita", "64"..... some of my least favourite Beatle songs actually. Now if they had only put "Strawberry Fields / Penny Lane" on it ins...

the only distortion pedal i'm using nowadays is the voodoo lab sparkle drive. the best thing about it is that you can blend the distortion setting with a clean boost. i probably wouldn't use the distortion sound on its own, but i like the slightly compressed clean boost which adds some lows and high...

A 57 with a neve 1073: great. A 57 with a poop log mic pre: poop log mic pre sound. Having great mic pre's come into your life is like getting a whole new mic collection. Having BOTH is the goal, but having a "bottleneck" at the mic pre is the worst place in the chain to incur noise, limited bandwi...

I guess the more money is at stake, the focus shifts from knob-twiddling to money/time management.

the SG is a fairly versatile guitar. it's a bit thinner sounding than a les paul and other 2 humbucker solid bodies, so there's more bite which you might like since you say you're playing funk. i don't know how easy they are to find used where you are, but i'd suggest trying out a few since differen...

you make a good case. Post-Zep: everyone gets a hard-on over "how huge the drums sound, dude". And if you like drums that sound like cannons and are mixed loud enough to supplant just about everything else. . if you don't like big, agressive sounds, then maybe rock and roll really isn't for ...

hey, i got this for christmas too! it really is great. there is such a natural, loose vibe to it. obviously when you're dealing with great songs and very talented musicians, you're not going to need much rehersal. and Shankar's group tears it up in the beginning of the concert too.

It's interesting to see what ultimately captures our attentions. So far, the faves named in this thread are pretty heavy on natural reverb. Even Wilco's Being There makes good use of reverb. Time Out of Mind is the ultimate in that department, I suppose. yeah, after i posted my picks i realized tha...
