Esa Tervala in Switzerland specializes in repairing old AKG dynamics like the D12 and D19. His handle over on Gearslutz is panman, pm him there. He did a super job on my very old D19. Hey - thanks for the referral. How much did he charge you - and what was the shipping? IIRC it was about $250, ship...

I have recorded a few house concerts this way, most recently two by Jim Boggia here in Austin. I submixed the vocals, guitar, piano and room mics in a little Soundcraft mixer then go through a Benchmark ADC-1 into my Masterlink. Since then, I've picked up two Korg DSD recorders (an MR-2000S and an M...

Just picked up a pristine dbx 160, already modded with XLR I/O, on Craigslist and a Valley People 415 dual de-esser and Roland SDE 3000 delay on Ebay.

No difference at all. Telefunken never manufactured mics, they only relabeled other companies' products (AKG, Neumann, etc.) and put their badge on it. I own identical D19c's, one with a Tele badge, one labeled AKG. Norelco, Philips and Uher also relabeled some AKG mics.

IMO the fact that you can get full range audio from a bass via DI tells me that the notion of "letting the wave develop" is utter BS.

Re: best live

Trouble Funk "saturday night live in dc" [the ultimate go-go record] Truth. I used to go see them at the DC Armory back in the day, an unstoppable force. "Big World" by Joe Jackson is a great live recording, kudos to Michael Frondelli for amazing engineering on that record. Cut live in a theatre bu...

Been using a Soundelux ifet7 outside the bass drum. Not exactly a Neumann U47FET but in that same battle class. Wunder has a new CM7FET that recently got reviewed in TapeOp Mag, check it out.

BTW Andy Hong asked us to write a short review about CLASP and we'll get on that right after we finish building out our new mix room - our second API 1608 will be delivered in a couple weeks!

We've had CLASP since March and both the engineers and the clients love it; in fact, our chief technical engineer Shannon Sullivan is helping Endless Analog with tech support for new owners. It's great recording to tape again and clients can now afford to as the high cost of 2" tape is now moot.

I've been a fan of the V76 for more than a decade, bought my first pair in early 2000 - a couple V76s model (studio) that came out of Deutsche Grammofon that I regretably traded for mixing services. Got my second pair a couple years later. When properly maintained (I had Oliver Archut refurb the las...
