If you were to start over on a Macbook Pro, would you go PT?

I haven't been doing much recording on my own lately. I have replaced my G5 with a new MacBook Pro and before I upgrade my 002R to PT10 I figure I would ask, would you? If not, what would you do?

Replacing 13" MacBook Pro Optical Drive w/ Optibay. Hel

I've decided to replace the Optical Drive in my MacBook Pro with an Optibay and a new hard-drive. What are your suggestions on drives? SSD? Should I put the new drive in the Boot Drive Spot and move the original over to the Optibay? Thoughts? Opinions? I will be running Pro Tools 9.

Thanks everyone!!

$26 to Ship an iLok and Dongle Buddy? REALLY?!!

So I want to upgrade to Pro Tools 9 but I need an iLok so I went to the site and started to order one as well as a Dongle Buddy, shipping is $26? That seems OUTRAGEOUS!!!

Is there anyway to get around this? Do I have to buy my iLok there?

Pro Tools Certification

I've been a professional, semi-professional musician for 25 years. I've had a Pro Tools (002R/G5) rig which I've used sporadically over the years with a bunch of half-finished recordings to show for it. I have access to amazing musicians, great ideas and great songs but my Pro Tools knowledge and ab...

Looking to put together 2 channels of classic signal path

I'm looking to put together two channels. Pre, Comp... Neve, API, Helios, UA? I have a few bucks to spend and I thought now might be a good time to put something together. I'm into old school tones. What would you suggest? I've been out of the loop when it comes to gear so. Should I buy a pair of 10...

Apple Can't Fix My G5, Offering Me $750 towards new computer

I have a Dual Core 2.0 G5 that has been having problems with it's logic board. Long story short, Apple agreed to replace the logic board for free but while doing so also needed to replace the graphic/video card. After doing both there was still a problem so The Apple Store called last night and offe...

I hear ya Joel. When you're in the room, the monitors are rocking, it sounds as badass as you can imagine. Then you take a reference out and put it in the car and it sounds REALLY soft.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I understand there are going to be differing opinions, thoughts and philosophies regarding how to spend $5,000 and that's precisely why I ask the question here. I like the exchange. My opinion is that a lot of the the records I like that were recorded in untreated...

It seems as if most of you are suggesting room treatment but lots of the records I like and I'm talking classic records made by legendary producers and engineers have been made in less than 'ideal' acoustic enviroments. Houses, Barns, Cabanas etc...... I don't put a lot of stock in fancy high end ac...

How do I hook up a mono speaker?

So, I'm running a pair of Event 20/20 BAS off of my 002R and then a little pair of RCA/Radio Shack 'Auratones' and an old pair of 70's stereo speakers off of an old Kenwood receiver. I have another pair of the RCA/Radio Shack 'Auratones' and I'd like to use one as a mono speaker. How do I go about i...

Help my friend spend $5,000.00

My buddy has about 5k to redo his home recording set-up. He needs a new computer and I thought he should go with one of those little white MacBooks. I see lots of people using them who use lots of plug-ins and figured it would be a good way to save some cash and not get more computer than he needs. ...

Anyone using the preamp models in POD Farm?

I finally fired up POD Farm and I'm really digging it. Does anyone here have settings they use the Vintage UK (Neve) model on drums?

Thanks everyone, I've done this before I just can't remember how I did it in the past. I'm just curious why when I set the 002's clock to internal and try to use the ADA8000 as a slave why I get no signal. Anybody?
