Re: Where should I draw the line with a preamp?
A friend of mine swears that a 57/58 through nice tube pre is an awesome combo, and he really knows his shit. For a really nice and cheap pre the ART Tube is not bad at all, and for 100 bucks too! Skip the one with the limiter. Stay away from the JoeMeek stuff unless you specifically want it for gui...

Re: Recording Guitar Amp Direct out vs. mic
The red box isn't bad but I prefer the POD and it is a lot more versatile. Everyone agrees a well miced amp sounds the best but sometimes you are in need of haste and I think the POD rocks. MD409 is one of my all time favorite guitar mics. 421's with a couple clicks of roll off are great too. 57 nev...

Re: In need of quality mics
I really love 451's but they aren't budget mics. Unless you have a huge budget they will eventually get used for more than just overheads. Mics that are good on overheads are usually great for anything acoustic. The RODE's tend to be a little bright to my ears but that might be good for overheads. R...

Re: Technique for distorted guitar pads under acoustics??
Try a swell type of delay with 3 or more layered tracks, go with a whole note delay with a moderate amount of feedback (on the delay). The jist is to get everything delayed except the strum or attack of the electric. Ebow! Yes!! Or automate or ride the aux send, increasing the signal to the delay gr...

Re: Athlon 64 vs Pentium 4 HT?
The whole AMD stability issue is a thing of the past IMHO. There haven't been any major issues since the release of the K6-2. There IS however the issue of the different chipsets and incompatibility with some audio hardware. This can be experienced with Intel too if you get the wrong chipset as my f...

Yes, rotate...keep it fresh. That is one of the hard things about websites unless you are just super busy band. The site can get stale fast.

Re: sample rate conversion question
I just resonded to another thread with a similar question. I don't know why my audio sounded different but it did. It came form a Tascam HD24 recorded at 48k SDII files. I converted the files in Pro Tools to 44.1 wav files. The high end was definitely effected. I don't know why, but I could hear it....

Re: Propellerhead's Reason
I have grown to love the NN19 and NNXT samplers. Actually I use it for my drum sampler as the control over layers and the amount of samples has made my drum sounds much better. You can load any wave files in it to create your own patches. I basically set it up with rewire as a virtual synth/sampler ...

Re: Sample rate: Down converting...is pitch shifting avoidab
That explains what happened to me then...I tracked at 48K on a Tascam HD24. The project switched gears on me and ended up getting finished on a PC. So then I loaded them into Pro Tools, down sampled to 44.1 wav files for compatibility with the PC I was using and everything sound less crisp, soft and...

Re: USB/VGA extender and switcher advice for quiter control
I had a cheap vga extender that I bought from radio shack and it caused the screen to have a weird blue hue, like one of the guns in the monitor was bad. I guess cheap is the keyword there... Also at work we had belkin boxes that were bad. We got replacements and the work great now. As long as you d...

Re: Sample rate: Down converting...is pitch shifting avoidab
Here I go singing the praises of Cool Edit Pro again...even though it is not my main app. It has batch file options that are easy to use, including sample rate conversions. I don't think converting the sample rate properly will effect the pitch, it might effect the sound though. I am not sure what p...

Re: MP3 creating and posting - quality or quantity?
I agree with option C. As an interested consumer I would want a full song to enjoy, and as an engineer I can't stand crappy mp3's (allthough civilians don't seem to mind). I wouldn't want to post everything because you want to leave the consumer with a desire for more, and hopefully they will pay fo...

This seems like it would be a great topic and would probably get more responses if you posted it seperately.

Re: cubase export file?
You can also rename files in the info line or as stated above in the pool. Just to clarify for anyone following this thread, here is a section form the manual. Also as stated above, naming your tracks before you record will make file maintenence a lot easier as cubase will name all files based off o...

Re: I'm an anolag guy. My first post here. Need advice. . .
I used to wave the Mac banner and I still do but Win2000 and XP have made my computing life a lot less frustrating...I think that anytime you are involving computers there is going to be some shitting of monkeys going on sooner or later, even on Macs. I use Cubase for just about everything bowadays,...
