Re: Sizing a PA for a Small Theater
markjazzbassist, we are in Chardon. As for budget, I am trying to push for buying a pair of substantial subs. For now, we have to use the mix of existing gear we currently have. 2 EV SX500 2 Mackie SR1530's 2 RCF NX 32-A We plan on mounting these in the walls on either side of the stage. We can vary...

Sizing a PA for a Small Theater
I know this is the Creative Recording forum, but I'm sure there are folks out there with some experience with this sort of thing. :D I am a studio engineer with limited live sound experience, just your local bar band kind of thing. A theater group I work with just got their own space, an old movie t...

Hardware Compressors for vocals on a budget
I am helping run sound for a house of worship and they have a nice small setup but lack compressors. Performers vary and there are at times 5-6 different singers of various tones and dynamic ranges. There is no efficient way to create an input path for each person, it has to be a one size fits all s...

I didn't think about testing the outlets, I will absolutely do that and post my results. In the meantime, I tried Drone's suggestion; ungrounding the xlr did the trick! I think I will make some ground lift xlr's with the capacitor inserted for high freq rf stuff. Fortunately the place is pretty quie...

Solving gounding problem, is this safe?
I have a room for rehearsal, relatively new construction, built about ten years ago. I have two powered mackie thump th-12a's. When connected one by one to my alesis 12-s mixer, each is nice and quiet. When they are both connected, I get a buzz unless I connect them to the same outlet . Sounds like ...

Thanks for the input. It seems that police stations or others in the medical field would be doing this. If i could make a perfect solution for this sittuation it would be record split screen and thats it. Not sure why they need to see therapists face but i suppose as a teaching tool non verbal commu...

Video Hardware for Recording 2 Camera Interviews
So this is a video question but I can't think of a better place to ask than TapeOP message board, thanks for any help. I have been contacted by a Behavioral Health provider who wants to be able to record therapy sessions that are conducted by intern clinicians. The sessions are to be reviewed by lic...

Advice for iso booth on a budget
I am finishing my basement and I am putting in an area for recording/practicing. My space size and location are dictated by the rest if the space so my options are limited and so is my budget. It will be a challenge but I have realistic expectations and I don't expect the moon. The space is about 8 ...

Thanks
I just bought a used ADAT for $130 including shipping. We'll see what "works great" really means. And then of course, here's to hoping my tapes playback! I think I will try punching in a test tone on all 8 tracks before the beginning of a song. Hopefully with the punch point set all of the tapes wil...

Advice Needed for Archiving ADAT to DAW
I have a bunch of old ADAT tapes I recorded with my friends in college. There are about 6 sessions on 16 to 32 tracks of ADAT. I am considering buying a used ADAT to try to archive the audio to the computer. These recordings are from 1994-1996, but they have been stored in a box in my air conditione...

Looking for network accessible audio recording device.
My friends at a local Mental Health Center have asked for my advice for a device to record their board meetings. I don't have the answer so I thought I would ask here. They have a conference room with an 8' ceiling and a 10' wide conference table. They do not want to have any microphones on the tabl...

Can anyone help with strange feedback issue-Korg DTR-2000?
I hope this is an ok place to post this question/scenario. I am hooking up a Korg DTR-2000 guitar tuner. The signal flow is guitar to volume pedal. Volume pedal out to amp, volume pedal tuner out to tuner. Simple right? Then why do I get a weird ringing that sounds pretty much like feedback? If I di...

Clarification
I should have used a different word than compression, I am looking for an archive tool like winrar or stuffit, but I thought I read somewhere that they either didn't change the file size much or could lose audio data; does that sound right?

Looking for Lossless Audio File Compressions Software
Hi TapeOp gang,
I am constantly transferring project files across the internet and I am looking for a good file compression program that works well with audio files. Not to be confused with a compressor, those are a lot more fun

Vocal Removal Tool for karaoke
My wife wants me to buy her a gizmo for her iPod that is supposed to remove vocals from a song. I doubt anything does that great of a job, but I have also seen some plug-ins that do the same thing. I am not looking to spend a fortune on it, but would rather have a plug-in then an iPod accessory, the...
