In the interim it seems as if my regular roster of talented folks has been less available as they move out of town, start families etc..etc. So I'm looking for some new faces to help pick up th...

Dear fellow tape-ops, It with great sadness I regret to inform you that aforementioned MCI-JH110B gave up the ghost this morning while I was cueing something up for a prospective buyer. I guess it sensed its imminent departure and had 8 weeks to think about leaving this world since I last turned it ...

FS/FT: MC-JH110B 1/4" 2-track $400

One MCI JH110B in a roll around case. It's functional but it will need an alignment and calibration to make it shine. I've been meaning to get around to using this but honestly have not had the need + I can't find my MRL. So it's time to move on. Asking for $400 but will also accept "interesting tra...

David, There's no shortcut for hustling. If you can afford to not be paid to build your reel than film school is great, also Mandy.com still has opportunities. keep making stuff and keep track of your back catalog. Reach out to the editors who work for that video production company, they likely free...

Sadly my math is pretty rusty these days as I'd be able to explain this clearly when I was younger and smarter. Both MS micing and sum-difference processing deal with what is known as correlation. There is a very specific mathematical definition of what it means for things to be correlated but here'...

Doug, It's tough to say anything with the info you have provided. My best advice would be to strictly define your goals and go from there taking into consideration existing conditions and then budget. It seems that you are mostly concerned with isolation so I'd honestly look into an isolation cabine...

@ mquilling: I like that you are messing around with a cassette 8 track, that's a blast. You could indeed try messing with TC, I've done it with software before and gotten it to work but it was a bit of a PITA. You could also look for a used MTP AV if you are going to do this a lot. If I were in you...

it totally varies for me.

most of my clients are word of mouth and they don't care as long as I tell them I can get them what they want/need

outside engineers care for the same reason

for other bookings it does indeed matter. It's mutually assured gear destruction out there.

the "phase" button on a console or a mic pre is really a polarity switch. for a sine wave switching the polarity is functionally equivalent to rotating the phase of the wave 180 deg. any audible difference would be due to the fact that you might be in a node at your listening position where you were...
