Re: Os Mutantes....Brazillian Psychedelia
this is just so weird! i was talking to a dude at work the other day and he's telling me about this band the mutants. he called them the latin velvet underground. so i finally got a chance to look up some info on them - literally 5 minutes ago. then i come here to see what's going on, and WHAT THE H...

phase reverse / esrever esahp
hey all - so, for years i've been mostly working digital and when it comes time to fix the phase on certain things (like a bass di + mic setup, or one or two drum micsout of phase with the overheads, etc.) it's always been a cinch to hit the "phase reverse" button on the eq plugin. but i've been mov...

Re: Mixing / Recording...with a cold
thanks guys, the home remedies were cool, and the ones i haven't already tried, i will (except the onions - sorry dude, but one of them makes me puke, blech). but yeah, i was looking more along the lines of what shawn said with the reference cd's. that's a good one. i did some work today using them,...

Mixing / Recording...with a cold
hello all, here's a question i've been meaning to ask for a long time - how do you guys deal with mixing and recording when you have a cold? i know that taking a couple days off is a good idea, but sometimes due to schedules and deadlines, you just can't. but working with a cold COULD hurt the recor...

hotmail

Re: Tricks to use on backup vocals
backing vox can be lots of fun - i try everything and anything. triple, quadruple and quintuple (or whatever) tracking is always fun. especially when you have more than one vocalist on each track, different mics, mic positions and eq's, etc.. you can use octaves for different backup harmonies, so on...

Re: Success with cheapo (i.e. Mono) equipment?
i saw a band similar to that (or maybe it was them) on "sessions on W 54th" on PBS. they were a bluegrass band, playing around one mic - basically shuffling around each other coinsiding with the solos/duos. i was one of the best mixed songs i've heard all year. i give you props for going for this, w...

keep in mind it also has to do with how yr playing it too - felt picks are good (if you can find em - i can't), but try a different attack with yr picking hand. or try finger picking.

ear popping airplanes
hi all - so sandwiched between two very important recording gigs is a trip to europe in about a week. my usual experience with airplanes is very severe ear discomfort - last time i went to the midwest, i felt like my ear was gonna literally explode on the landing and i'd never hear again - i'm talki...

Re: questions from a 'newbie' to mastering (well, kinda newb
this is my last post on this subject, cuz i don't wanna beat a dead horse. i'm not arguing anything that soundguy (or anyone else) has been saying - i'm just trying to offer up another way to look at things that doesn't include the way everything is USUALLY done. if you only offer someone ONE option...
