...I just got bored and read through this thread in one sitting...sort of went through a few series of angry highs and lows and now I think I've lost a lot of my thunder...it was a cheap session at the shrink's. Basically any time I turn on the radio there's nothing good on unless it's one of the ol...

A little off topic but while everyone's advocating their brand names I'd like to point out that I have had great success with buying internal drives and nice enclosures for them with good chipsets. I just recently bought a 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 16MB cache buffer SATA drive for about $150 a...

I'm so poor. Go to the studio and work with great gear but come home and I just bought a Lexicon LXP-1 for $40 and am trying to sell a cheapo 16 channel Phonic mixer and a couple weird guitars to buy a long overdue mbox. Been trying to go for a 002 but never end up coming up with the $700-800, which...

Red Book is just the standard audio CD format that will play in all your players. It specifies that it's 16bit 44.1kHz 2-channel and so on. You can check it out on wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Book_(audio_CD_standard) Here's another link for you if you're still not sure about it:...

I really think that beyond personal suggestions about what things in particular sound really good to you it's really up to the artist to decide what to use in their shows. You can help an artist think about these things but if they're creative they'll usually have something in mind or come up with s...

I've been wanting to get into some of the circuit bending stuff out there too for this kind of music when I'm working on it. I've heard some sound samples that are so cool from this hacked gadgetry. Also thinking of getting a Cracklebox! I love sound! If you've got a soldering iron you should just ...

Guitar question if you work in LA

I was just hoping for some references to good people and maybe some rates for professionals around the LA area that set up guitars for people. Intonation through repair work. I just bought some guitars and have a few that could use some work and I'm frankly just not very good at dealing with it myse...

Thanks for the reply rydaken. I have an alright amount of experience dealing with rental stuff from companies. The owner fortunately said I won't have to be doing 4 day weeks and that ever day they use it I will get money for. Dirtdog, I never said anything would be unattended. I definitely work her...

Hrm...maybe I didn't communicate myself correctly. The thing is that the studio needs to have a rig here. I offered to buy one to stick in the studio and the owners would rent it out as part of the studio price whenever the studio is in use and in turn they'd give me the rental money. I need to have...

I totally bought one of those KMicro condensers when I saw they were going for $0.99 for the first however many people who bought them. I missed out on the 99 cents offer but ended up getting it for around $13 or so. They upped the price again apparently. Still haven't tried it out since it ended up...

Renting protools to the studio

So the studio I work at currently has a HD2 24i/o rig in their studio A and are renting a HD3 w/ 24i/o in their B room. The A room has a newer G5 with the PCI-E slots and Accel cards and the B room has an older G5 with process cards. I made plans with the owner to buy a rig and rent it to the B room...

Neve EMT remote connector

So the studio that I work at has a Neve 8048 with the four plate controls mounted on the same plane as the meter bridge. We have a EMT plate sitting in the back room and it has finally been set up and is fully working. The only problem is that the owners misplaced the connector that goes on the back...

Green Day. When I was a kid everyone liked them and I couldn't understand and now they still seem to be popular and I generally keep my mouth shut about my opinions about them. Pink Floyd. I really like a lot of things they do and even lots of the songs I hear but I rarely feel like listening to the...

PC guy bringing hard drive to the Mac world

I was wondering what the best way to transfer files that were recorded on a PC onto a mac and then back again. I called a friend who told me just briefly that there is a way to make timestamped .wav files, but I am not sure how to do that or how it would work out. If anyone has any suggestions that ...

Well thanks for the information. I actually found a bunch of places that locally sell the different types of cable I'm looking for (I even forgot to mention in my initial post that right now I'm just looking for balanced cable for XLRs). I think that type I posted the specs for is what I want to go ...
