Check around for local "trophy" shops, which do a lot of one-off engraving.

In the latter years, a lot of Altec-branded electronics gear was built here in OKC. Sigh...it was a sad day when the old University Sound/Altec factory plant went dead. (Sidebar: eons ago, when I was in high school, a University Sound engineer gave me a factory tour, including the anechoic chamber.)...

i'm not that happy with the fuzz pedal i recently built. i'll order some germanium transistors and see if that makes my casiotone sound like fella kuti's organ (not the one his 20 wives enjoyed, the other one.) Be aware that most germaniums are PNP, while silicon transistors can be either PNP or NP...

As discussed in the Shure article that Rod linked, modern systems use a "bridging" topology, with a low source impedance driving a comparatively high load Z. This maximizes the transfer of voltage. So, impedance mismatches are a relatively uncommon problem. One area where a problem can arise is usin...

You can TRY the "diddle the pot" method with balanced inputs, but the results may not be accurate with electronically balanced ins or outs, depending on the circuit design. The pot trick WILL work when transformer I/Os are involved. Hmmmm...maybe a 2-gang pot might work (one section in series with t...

Quick and dirty way to check (approx.) input impedance, specifically for an unbalanced input: 1. Locate a potentiometer with a value *higher* than what you guesstimate it will be. I'd start with a 50K pot for newer gear. 2. Wire the pot in series with the "hot" audio lead between a signal generator ...

sorry, its probably a transistor. my bad. here's a schematic of the board, it is the M-BOARD : http://bermuda.ucd.ie/bridge/cs80/cs80_circ5.jpg if i trace the +14v leg of the transistor(?), it comes directly from one of the incoming wires to the board. so if someone can confirm that a 3-legged beas...

Of course it probably wont work so easily for an optical compressor. The attack/release time constants for an opto compressor are almost always due to the response of the photoresistors. Example: in the LA-2/3, the audio signal is used to directly drive the electroluminescent panel, so the "time co...

Re. the Otari...maybe a short "spritz" of QD contact cleaner into the guts of the switch might kerp it heatlthy got awhile. Re. syncing....that is tricky. At a minimum, you will require something like a Lynx unit, or at least a MOTU "MIDI Timepiece". Digidesigns also sold a "Universal Slave Driver" ...
