I would always recommend having bass effects running parallel to the straight bass sound, instead of in-line. I used to run my bass into a pre-amp, and take one output to the main bass amp and speakers. Also take a second out to my pedals, and the out from that into a small amp, that would just run ...

I have found the original Blackface ADATs to be fairly unreliable, chewing tapes too often, and the A/D converters too "grainy", probably because they are early 16-bit chips. The LX and XT's are a lot better sounding, and seem more reliable, definately a good choice for A/D and location recording. T...

S/PDIF is normally stereo, but can carry DTS/AC3 signals. These are 5.1 files encoded into a stereo stream, and sound like very nasty noise, until put through a decoder to turn them back into 5.1.
