Reaper works great for me with my Q6600, UAD-2 Quad and UAD-1 PCI cards. I did have to change the disk streaming to "synchronous" and bump up the render-ahead size under anticipative FX to around 500 ms (default is 200). Also if I get glitches during sessions with large track counts I will change be...

You could always build an API-style pre using the JLM Baby Animal Kit . I plan on building one (with some help) this summer. I've already got some 2520 clones, and cinemag in and out iron--just need to order the barebones kit without iron & opamps. It might not be an exact API circuit, but I hope it...

I was thinking about picking up a Digimax FS to have an extra 8 ch. of A/D but I just realized that the line inputs on the Neutrik combo jacks send the signal through the preamps. The only way to get a line input into the FS without going through the preamp is to use the inserts in the back, but the...

i love my verbzilla (and dl-4) as well. one thing that's awesome on the verbzilla is the ability to have a 100% wet output. i'm not sure how many other reverb pedals have this feature but it can be really inspiring to play live with no dry signal passing through (especially with the plate setting). ...

superczar, Reaper is available for the mac but it is pretty far behind the PC version. It will probably be up to speed in a few months, though. Check this thread: http://www.cockos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4220 Good luck picking your software. It doesn't really matter what you use as long as it he...

Don't forget about Reaper . It's VERY affordable ($39 for personal use!) and gets updated almost daily. I must admit I haven't tried it yet but I have a feeling this will be my new DAW based on the support and flexibility of this program. For instance, there were conflicts with UAD-1s at first. So, ...

I just got a CME Matrix Y and so far it's great. The talkback function is awesome and I'm starting to wonder how I got along without it before. The amp is loud enough and comfortably drives a variety of different headphones, and the build quality is decent. For right at $100 this unit is a great buy.

you might want to just get an oktavamod 219 or 319 and go from there. they are so smooth and thick. to me they sound a lot like an sm7 but require less gain and have slightly less hi mids. my modded 319's sound just as big but more present than my cheap ribbons (alctron hrm2, hrm10, hrm14). you can'...

For those of us using DAWs there are a couple of very handy FREE plugins for manipulating phase on multi-mic'd instruments: PhaseTone is a very useful plugin that lets you adjust frequency-specific phase rotation. PhaseBug is more like the IBP, in that you rotate the entire frequency range. I find P...

I lived in Nashville for several years and now live in Raleigh (30 min. from Durham, NC). Both towns have great "underground" scenes. I'd be happy living in either one. I left Nashville 4 years ago, but some venues/bars to check out include Grimey's, Springwater, and The End. There's a ton of great ...
