hey man, I'm pretty much a noob as well but I've been doing nothing but soldering for the last month and wanted to chime in with the best thing I've learned....your solder tip and temperature are hugely important as well. When you're soldering a component to a board, if the hole is connected to a me...

Neve 31102/1073 mod

so my boss has each of these two modules. The 31102 was modded via (as far as I know) one single jumper that would allow it to work in a 1073 slot. We're looking for a way to return the 31102 back to stock, but can't seem to find the info yet...and also we're looking for a way to do the same for the...

Scodiddly is right on the mark! The idea is to "get in and out" ASAP. I've used a Weller W60 pencil iron ever since I learned of it during "training school" at Crown (makers of the power amps) back in the mid 1970's. It's a temp. controlled pencil and I've used 700 degree tips. It's fine for circui...

acoustic guitar: removing the preamp and micing the hole

anyone ever done it? Just wonderin cuz I played a guys guitar semi-recently where he had taken the preamp out of an old marshall and it gave a nice tone from the new hole...I thought it might be good for a "player's perspective" type thing. Well, no, not player's perspective cuz the sound isn't what...

thanks for the tips guys, i appreciate all of it! for now I'm going to be populating boards with whatever components...resistors, transformers, caps, switches, etc...for routing matrixes and pre-amps. I'll mention the heat-sink idea once I get there to the head tech over at the shop. I'm not sure ho...

Soldering

Concerning soldering, what temps do you find appropriate for what different soldering applications? I can solder fairly well, I'm just not down with all the details. And do you have any tips for avoiding cold solder joints? I really want to do very well at this new job I just scored (even though it'...

If he's shellin out the bucks for a studio with an engineer that can get good sounds, you probably don't have much to worry about concerning mic placement, so no worries with that man. And as far as asking him about how much input he wants, if he's small time and what not, what would be wrong with a...

no, but i was interested so I looked it up and it seems to get a good review. And it was compared to an SPL transient designer, which i heard for the first time on saturday on some shitty sounding drum tracks and it turned them from shit to shine. So this Kultube could be a good bet. here's the arti...

The wired remote on my speakers sucks at keeping constant volume, so I'm guessin it needs a good cleaning. alcohol? or do I need to go get somethin else? also, I forget the difference between type A and type B. oh okay, i always thought that on all boards the insert button was like a relay itself, switching the flow when engaged to head out to the gear, but when not engaged all the insert circuitry was bypassed. good to know information, thanks!

Now, if that phase issue was caused by differing distances between the capsules of the two mics, and happened to be, because of that distance, creating a phase shift of 180 degrees at 1kHz, we would see a phase shift of 90 degrees at 500 Hz, for example, due to the longer wavelength of the lower fr...
