Re: Big Muff keeps killing signal.
Two pedals is a shitload in my book. If you're that disappointed with your sound, buy a different guitar, amp or choose another instrument. I've got a big muff I use about once a decade. I bought it when I was really young thinking it would boost me above the other guitar player in my band. I discov...

Re: Justifying lots of money going into one thing.
Do what I do in this situation. Go to your favorite watering hole and get a beer. Think about that sound you heard. It's haunting you, you can't help it. Think about you playing it in your basement and the utter bliss. Then think of someone else having that beautiful creature all to his or herslef. ...

Wow, I dig your post and its spirit with the one exception... The RHCP's are fucking unlistenable.

Please explain audio file formats...
I'm new to the digital audio realm so please suffer this question. Why is it when I burn an audio file out of Peak Bias (.aiff) it plays on some CD players but not others. Should I be using another format? Is there a universal format? I've googled this subject and the answer seems to be no. What the...

Woke up at 6AM, drank two beers and did the final mix & master on what will probably be my band's next 7-inch on my new dual G-4 set-up. Went to the mailbox a few hours later, got the check for the final 50 copies we sold of our last one. As the Kinks might say, Low Budget.

Re: You know who has a great foot?
Dave Lombardo ain't too shabby. +1 he's a machine There was an interview with Jeff Hanneman in the local rag. He said Dave was the best musician in the band, that the guy didn't even warm up, just sat down and laid it down from the first note of the show. I saw Slayer without him and it just wasn't...

Re: Ignorance
Yeah, I explained to my bandmates that I put together a digital recording set-up and we could record our next record on it. The first response? "My friend knows Pro Tools, we could get him to run it!" It's like a record ain't a record unless it's been blessed by this omniscent power know as PT...

Re: John Bonham hour
This sounds awesome! I can tell you some people are gonna be sampling some of these beats right now.. I know I will be... Get 'm before they're gone... I think they'll be best used (for reasons of legality and otherwise) as shorter pieces for loops. But what the hell, they will become the cheapest ...

Re: Guitars: New, used, or vintage
Granted I have not played a new Gibson for a year or so but the ones I played most recently were underwhelming, especially for $1200+. The SG I actually purchased new 7 years ago was a piece of crap. Unfortunately, I was blinded by the look and knew too little at the time. Truth be told, everyone's ...

Re: Guitars: New, used, or vintage
New Gibsons blow! I bought a new SG a few years back. It looked great, and even though my ears told me different, I convinced myself it sounded great. Well, there was a short somewhere which forced me to open the back and discover... It was a piece of F*CKING PLYWOOD! For 1000+ bucks I was hoping fo...

Re: Tape Op trashed on Motu Mac listserv
I'm on the Motu-Mac board only because it's quick-fix, free tech support. Usually I just delete the posts as quick as I get them. But sometimes, when I'm stuck in the digital prison of my own making, they give me the key to escape. They're mostly dorks but where would the world be without them?

Re: Suggest me an All-In-One Digital Recorder unit
I have a Korg D1600 which I am now selling as soon as I drag all the old tracks off it. I recorded a couple singles on it that were pressed and sold out so it's not useless. The pre's can be a bit brittle and some of the effects blow (and some are pretty good), but otherwise its rock solid, easy to ...

Re: Monitors that don't lie or steal your money
While admittedly I was coming from a shitty set of monitors, the Wharfedale Diamond Pro 8.2 Actives I picked up a couple weeks ago have drastically improved my mixes. I tested them against everything our best local pro sound store had up to $700. I used two recordings I know very well, one my band's...
