I think Steve Albini is trying to create a niche in the market of a dwindling industry. A niche that you can only get by going to him. Not by downloading a new plug in. He's setting himself up for the future in an ironic way by embracing technology form the past and marketing its unique value.

Im a synth guy but got the fever for a nice guitar set up. I did just a little bit of research and I have to admit Im not as versed in the details of the guitar world. Ive bought a gibson SG and a David Bray marshal 87 reissue mod. David has yet to deliver, but I told him to take his time. Im not on...

Anyone have a clue how this was recorded? Was it all tape or a mix of tape and pro tools? Any info appreciated. Thanks!

Not really into using a computer. For a lot of reasons. I was thinking of getting an mpc4000. Recording though, I thought would be best all analog until the final part. Even tracking parts to tape. Doesn't that add more depth to the sound? (bored on Christmas eve)

What do you think would result in a better sound? Record parts through a high end pre to a 1/2 inch tape on a great deck and transfer to a sampler at 96khz. Or record through high end pres to the MG1214? I'm worried the sampler will make things too glossy and flat. I'm also afraid the MG1214 will be...

telefunken rack

Hi

I know telefunken made a rack for their v72 pres. Id love a rack where I could add v72's when funds were made available. I just want a small but amazing mixer. Is their a way to add some mixer options to these racks? Like volume and gain control and aux sends?

what kind of tube desks were available? Would an ampex mx-35 approximate the sound? Or was it one of those esoteric Telefunken v72 custom desks from germany? Oh no one knows.

Any other strange instruments that are amplified that I should know about? Miniature harpsichords? Banjos? Electric Lutes? Anything.
