FS: 15-16 reels of 1 pass 1" 456

I've got 15 or 16 reels of 1 pass 456 stored back home in NC. I no longer have a 1" machine, so I thought someone else could use it.

$200 plus shipping for all of it. No splitting it up.

Not true. Two weeks ago Wednesday, I learned nothing.

Re: dumping tape to tools

We did get a little off topic with the converters thing, but I thought it might be useful to find out another persons experience with standard digi converters. Actually, converters aren't off topic at all. The quality of the converters is crucial in ANY scheme that involves combining/dumping analog...

Re: Ampex AM-10 mixer - mod for pres?

Thanks. I'd like to DIY it. I'm just thinking that the outputs of the pre could be tapped off before the mixing stage, but I'm assuming that I would need to do some sort of transformer on the individual outs... Roger Yep, that would be the basic idea. I'd ask over here and see if someone could reco...

Re: Favorite mics for recording tom-tom's?

Wing, "proximity" produces more low end. Moving the mic an inch towards the head is like turning up the low end across a pleasing number of frequencies. "proximity to the source." Just to add a little bit; promimity effect mostly applies to directional mics/polar patterns. Cardiods for example. Oth...

Re: expectations of a protools op

Even just knowing how to fan out the outputs is a huge timesaver. Joel, What do you mean exactly (I know what I THINK you mean)? Damnit, is there some quick key for this that I've missed all these years? Well, I learn a new one from every engineer that comes through the studio, so, what's one more....

Re: dumping tape to tools

Would that work? Or would I still be seeing wow and flutter since the second dump to PT would be a second physical rolling of tape with all its inherent inconsistencies? Did I just answer my own question? :) * Otari 5050 MK-III 8-track * PC-based PT LE 6.something setup. * SMPTE sync device not yet...

Let's Bring the Magic Back...Free Analog Recording

Something is slowly being lost. An art that I've loved for 15 years. Great recordings without modern tricks. Stellar bands laying it down without autotune and massive editing. Passion, intensity and artistic integrity. I WANT THEM BACK. So, let?s do something great! I am producing three free session...

Re: Do you like Dolby SR at 30 IPS?

In my experience, 30 ips is fine all by itself for almost all program material. 15 ips can benefit from NR depending on the program material. SR is my favorite noise reduction overall.

Re: MS recording for upcoming session?

I agree with you totally and of course each of those boxes has a "fingerprint"; like I said, I bet you responded to the non-linearities of various components at play in the analog process. That's why I love analog so much! Character baby, character. Truthfully, most of my MS decoding for mixing and ...

Re: MS recording for upcoming session?

Sure, I've used quality decoders (both film gear varieties, Schoeps, etc) and have certainly manually decoded it on a board with the standard mult approach dozens of times. It's a straight forward process; it shouldn't have a "sound" at all as far as I know. As long as the pan and phase inversion fu...

Re: MS recording for upcoming session?

the easiest thing to do is decode it at the console and record it XY into PT. Mult the fig 8, flip the phase on one, pan them LR and bring them up around the 47 panned at 12. I had to deal with MS tracks in PT LE a few weeks ago, did the decoding in PT by using that method and the results were horr...
