(2 db shift at 100 MHz?? Wow, that's some machine!! :-) But anyway... I know that the TASCAM ATS-500 will control the MSR-16 and the TSR-8 (1/2" 8-track) because I've done it. These devices, and some other TASCAM things, use the Accessory 2 protocol/hookup/whatever. (I think the MSR-24 and 238 can a...

Re: How often a week are you booked

I just call it vacation now, it makes me feel better. Someone who was working stupid hours (maybe, 60, 70, 80/week) once said that someone asked him when he slept. He replied "That's what February is for!" Not for the faint hearted or for those who don't know how to store the honey for the winter. ...

Re: How often a week are you booked

Winter in New England is usually called "The Dead Zone." I guess nobody wants to record, nor rock live, in the winter. As said, it's feast or famine. I had a freelance gig on New Year's Eve, then a couple of Saturdays on an on-site that needed the gear...but not me... :-( So it was kinda famine time...

Re: Help!! Which "small" analog machine? Or all Di

wait, where'd you get a 1" 16-track? E-bay. find 1" tape! look on the internet! (cough...musicians friend....) it's definitely around. I say you scrape up some dough and go for the 1". Hmmm, there's a thought... As far as tracks, I agree with dave. Ya know, I think I should have said that I have ju...

Re: Help!! Which "small" analog machine? Or all Di

man, are you suggesting you cant record a rock band on 16 tracks? Certainly not!! Wash your keyboard out with soap! It's basically *which* 16 tracks to use. All digi, all 1/2" 16, or a hybrid of digi and 1/2" 8. grow a pair and make some decisions. Yeah, yeah, that's why I'm thinking of doing it *a...

Re: Woman rockers.

My tastes run more towards local (New England) bands, so I'd go with Era for a Moment http://eraforamoment.com/ and "Q" http://thisisq.com/

I don't know if they'll ever get signed, but hey, it's cool seeing them in clubs, and maybe someday I can say "Hey I knew them when!!"

Help!! Which "small" analog machine? Or all Digita

So I'm obsessing about this. Whether this is a good or bad thing remains to be seen. I have 32 tracks of TASCAM DA-78hr, a TSR-8 (1/2" 8-track) and an MSR-16 (1/2" 16-track.) I can sync everything together via SMPTE and/or an ATS-500. Yeah, I'd love a 2" or fantastic A/D and D/A, too, but ya use wha...

Re: New Tape Company

I thought DTRS kinda killed DASH, and sometimes I feel like the only person in the world that still uses DTRS. I do, I do!! I'm not all that happy with the DA-78hr, but hey, when I dove back into this biz, it was the closest thing to the DA-38, which I had before. I wasn't too keen on the standalon...

Re: HIT FACTORY NYC CALLS IT AN ERA......

Reminds me of a joke i heard the other day. How do you make a million dollars in the recording business? Well, first you start with two million... What's the difference between a soundman and a pizza? A pizza can feed a family of four. But anyway, I have my day gig which I hate. (Don't we all? At l...

Re: any neat ideas for a HUGE ROOM?

Hey, you don't post on baystaterock.com, do you? But anyway, look on Mercenary.com for Fletcher's three mic drum technique. He mentions things by Neuman, and you have Octavas, but at least it's a start re. placement and such. Am I right in thinking the mc 012 is an instrument condensor and the mkl25...

Hi people, the studio i built on my property has really taken off and I am very busy. so busy that I put in my notice to my day job. Congrats!! Maybe someday I'll follow the same path...though the jury is still out as to whether I want to do so... I'll add to the list of people recommending that yo...

Re: (Whatever works) Equipment you love but evreyone else ha

The 535 is marketed as a live condenser vocal mic, but I say, if it sounds good, eat it. I like those...even though they aren't so hated! I've used them for live things like fiddles and acoustics, but had a hard time with them on live VOX. But as for things everyone seems to hate, there's th...

Re: is 499 the same as GP9?

I miss 911 and 900. Some people have said the same about Zonal, and now people are starting to say that about 456, 499 and GP9. I know ATR is going to make their own formula. I wish they'd do their own, as well as re-issues for 911, 900, 456, 499 and GP9. That way everyone would be happy! Maybe 6 fo...

Hey, I am updating the website, okay? http://instantdogma.net/toadhall.html Pax, Steve Maybe thereminman is right...but then, it does deal with Quantegy in that we are dealing with the whole "analog survival" problem. But I see you've been busy cleaning out that pesky bank account. So I take it you...

Re: Quantegy closes its doors

Truthfully I have noticed more of a major change from different consoles I have used and their various types of pres. I am glad that I blew about four K on decent sounding pres last year. I am just going to have to a bit more careful about running stuff into the red. Pax, Steve That was my fault......
