Well I'm betting these mics will be quieter than my C61's... Hopefully I will have them next week and will try to post a few comments when I get them.

Again I'm looking for mics for classical guitar / stereo recording so I'm really picky.

Anyone in Florida know Renn Music Productions?

Hi,

About to do a deal with Renn Music Productions in Casselberry, FL. A guy named Veit Renn. Anyone know him? Trust him with a credit card number? Looks good on the internet. Seems like a good guy.

Thanks,

John

I tried the Avensons a few years ago and I wasn't that impressed. I sent them back. For the money I thought they were a good mic but not quite what I wanted. I want something that captures what I hear and the avensons had some color to them I didn't like. $.02

Thanks for all the info. The ones I'm looking at are a pair of SR77's, cardioid. A few years old. I want something honest and detailed for classical / acoustic guitar and classical room mic.

Thanks for the input, I'll post back if I manage to get them.

What would be a good price for the pair?

Opinions on Earthworks Mics

I want a nice clean / clear stereo pair to use mainly on classical guitar. Also for some high quality stereo recording.

Can anyone give me some thought on Earthworks mics? I'm looking at a matched pair but not sure I want that flat and clean.

Thanks.

The Hamptone JFET Pre is almost identical to the Avalon U5, except the U5 has all the cool eq. The EQ is cool and worth having on the U5. The JFET is a really good two channel mic pre too. They are both great bass DI's. I know Hamptone is going to have some new kits soon that may be exactly what you...

So I guess the consensus is that I should not spend $170.00 to upgrade to the most current TDM version, from my current version #4.

Thanks.

I know Auto-Tune is evil but...

I've got Autotune 4 and sometimes it is a good tool, although I feel a bit dirty using it (like some sort of nasty sex toy). So my question is: Is there much of a difference between AT4 and AT EVO, both TDM. Don't know if I need to upgrade or if AT 4 is basically the same thing. Seems like lots of p...

Re: Mic Pre Suggestions?

I'm just about ready to buy a nice pre. At a price point between $400-$800, what would you consider? Groove Tubes Brick Focusrite Million$ Pre UA 610 Really Nice Pre (RNP) I had the UA Solo 610. I liked it but it was picky on what mics sounded good. Good DI for electric guitar. Personally I'd recom...

I just finished the Hamptone JFET kit. It is a nice addition to the Hamptone Tube Pre I built a few years ago. I enjoyed building the kit. Wasn't too hard but you gotta be a bit careful and follow the instructions. In general I wish I had gotten the JFET first. I think it is a better all around pre....

Avalon U5 or a Hamptone JFET pre (Used as a DI). The hamptone doesn't have eq but sound identical to the u5 without the eq, at least to me and my bass player. If you need good mic pre get the Hamptone. If bass DI is all you want get the Avalon, the eq is nice.

Re: Do Preamp Tubes in Guitar Amps Need to be a Matching Set

It's time to swap the tubes in my Fender Hot Rod. It uses 2 12AX7's as the preamp, and a third as a phase inverter. Do the preamp tubes need to be a matched set? Why do you feel it is "time". Tubes basically work or they don't, like a light bulb. Now one may sound a lot different but that is differ...

I've been happy with this one. I've used it with some large mics and it does just fine.

Hamptone JFET preamp has a really awesome DI for bass. Costs less than the Avalon (per channel). I don't own a avalon though, and would still consider getting one from all I hear on this messageboard. I just did some comparisons of the U5 and the Hamptone JFET DI on Bass. Had them side by side dais...

fossiltooth wrote: They beauty of the U5 is in the tone switch. Don't be afraid to use it!

It allows you to tailor the bass sounds to the song. I think that's good.
+1

The U5 on 2 with a Pbass seemed to fit in the mix.
