Re: NY Attorney General takes on payola

Salon has an article on the payola system and what could happen if payola is abandoned (basically, how will independant labels get their hits onto stations? Especially considering Clear Channel's share of the market) Payola is one of the mechanisms that kept indie music off of commercial radio. Wit...

Re: Quantegy closes its doors

Most companies discontinue the least popular product and focus on what sells. The problem is that VHS is the bulk of the mag media market and VHS is in the dumper big time. And it's not so much that VHS isn't selling or isn't popular, it's that VHS was SO POPULAR at it's peak that everyone and his ...

Re: 388 Question...

You can use 456. The 388's end-of-tape function shutoff won't work, as it's calibrated for 457, and the 456's tape thickness might make the capstan motor work harder (and possibly fail sooner). If you can get 457, you should stick to that. I had a 388 years ago and it was set-up by the dealer for 4...

Focusrite Compressors

Does anyone here have experience with Focusrite compressors? I'm thinking about getting their "Compounder" model and their "Penta" model and am wondering if they will do what I need. I produce "heavy dance music" such as what you would hear on Pete Tong's BBC radio show and many A&R weasles want dem...

Re: 8 track or 2 track tape deck

Option B. - - In all cases being equal, I prefer to multitrack digital, DO ALL OF MY EDITING AT THE MULTITRACK STAGE , then mix to 2-track analog through an analog board with automation. But I don't know if I'll be doing that any time soon with the Quantegy plant in limbo. :x Thank God I have a RADA...

FA/FS: Roll of GP-9 two inch

I got a roll of Quantegy GP-9 two-inch sitting here unwanted and unloved. It was opened and passed once to stripe a time-code track right before my Ampex was sold, other than that it is new. Is it worth anything to anyone?

Re: Quantegy closes its doors

HEY DID YOU HEAR THEY STOPPED MAKING CD-R media??? Wow. You probably all want to get rid of your stand alone cd burners... I'll buy them for a couple bucks... just to take the hassle away from you having to take them to the dump. It wouldn't suprise me one bit if the majors stopped making CD record...

Get yourself a RADAR. It's the closest thing to 2-inch currently in the marketplace.

Nothing is profitable right now. Why do you think that computer companies such as Dell, Apple, Microsoft, and Gateway are hell bent on getting into the home entertainment market that is presently dominated by Sony and Pioneer?

Re: Quantegy closes its doors

We don't know what the economics of the entire company of Quantegy were. The whole recording media biz is in a slump, and Quampex is not the only company that was on the drag. From looking at the whole schebang, analog tape was probibly the one area where Quampex was actually making a profit. DADC ...

FS: 96 point jackbay

Got a 96 point mil-spec jackbay which comes out of an ADM console. I have not used this item since recieving it in '99 - it's just been sitting in the basement. No pix yet but if you want some, lemme know.

$250.00 including packing and shipping anywhere in the USA.
