Re: Webster /Webco reel to reel
awwwww yeah! the magic eye! i have a pentron recorder from the 50's which still runs fine and has one of these "magic eye" tubes on the front. reminds me of pac-man... i use it for tape loops and distorted bass. kinda sounds like the bass sound on the monks "boys are boys and girls are choice...

Re: two prong outlets
i'll second having a grounded receptacle (outlet) installed on its own circuit to ensure that you and your equipment is protected in the event of a short circuit. also, just because an outlet has a three prong hole, DOESN'T mean that it's grounded. until you test it, you won't know for sure. i've do...

Re: Huge, incredible sounding records.
"A great "huge" sounding record is "Monuments To Theives" by the His Hero Is Gone a defunct hardcore band from Memphis on the Prank label." oh yeah! that first song "like weeds" is why i got into them! i think that "15 counts of arson" (the next lp) was even "larger" though. such cool bass sounds an...

Re: The collest thing you learned from tape op?
i learned that there were a lot of other recording geeks out there. i learned that it's ok to be a recording geek even if none of the other recording geeks want to listen to your steely dan records... after i got the first issue, i called tape op to see if i could arrange an interview with don depew...

Re: wicked farleys' "sentinel and enterprise"
wait.... i just thought of another odd drum sound: the exploited "don't forget the chaos" i don't know WHAT they did to the toms but it is REALLY silly. i think it's a heavy flange effect+wide stereo panning. i mean, the whole song is funny because it includes quite a few rock "cliche's" (long solo....

wicked farleys' "sentinel and enterprise"
does anyone else own this album? christina files recorded most of it @ fort apache and it's been one of my favorites since '98 when it came out... the reason i'm posting about it is because it has an EXTREMELY unusual drum sound throughout.. the kick and snare are clear almost to the point of exagge...
