Re: why do I suck at recording drums?

hey, the reverb on the second song's snare seems kinda cool to my ears. it reminds me of something the cramps would have done on thier first record... but it would've been a stomp beat.

Re: why do I suck at recording drums?

We did dampen the hell out of the snare because there was a terrible ring going on, that was probably a mistake in hindsight. ya, usually the ring gets lost when the guitars come in. (nice guitars, by the by..) when i was faced with a similar dead snare sound (due to tuning a new head too low and n...

Re: MC012 pads

Beware! You can damage the diaphragm on those MC012's if you are micing loud sources, the pad doesn't prevent the diaphragm from moving too much. mmmm.... i have to call you out on that... i've used these things on snare drums with the pad in and it worked just fine. i saw an experienced engineer (...

Re: Anyone in NYC have experience disassembling an Optigan?

If I remember correctly, the thing about taking apart an Optigan is that in order to get at all the keyboard contacts you need to take the sides off first. Once they are off, you can remove the top and the plastic cover over the keys. The other tricky bit is that there is at least one or two screws...

Re: cheap electret condenser mod idea

i have one of these. it's an "omni" right? i like it just the way it is. really useful for band practice. acoustic guitars... it looks like it would be really difficult to take apart without breaking the case... maybe you could mount the guts in something else? like a pvc tube? that would be bizzarr...

Re: Deerhoof

so, how do we petition Tape-Op to do an article on their (or whoever engineers the albums) approach to recording?
tape op always welcomes submissions from readers. maybe one of the T'Oppers in frisco could talk to them after a show about an interview?

Re: Concrete Sealer

"drylock" is a good one. home depot carries it.. may as well get one of the large brushes to apply it if the surface of the wall is too uneven for a roller with a 3/4" or 1" nap. you may want to try patching those slow leaks with mortar before you paint the walls... check the outside of the foundati...

Re: Removing laminate flooring

What kind of a saw would do this job?? Some kinda band saw where you could adjust the cutting depth to around 5-10 mm or what?? you can adjust the depth that the blade cuts in any circular saw. if the floor is glued together, just cut out 4 foot sections and remove with a crowbar and hammer. IF the...
