Google can be pretty worthless sometimes if you don't know what name to give to what you're looking for. We all have those moments; glad I could help!Carli wrote:Somehow I missed it when doing my own Google.....

What you're looking for is called a "scan converter". Used all the time in event videography. We use one almost daily for capturing powerpoint presentations and mixing them into our recordings. Two grand is way expensive, and these things can be had for a whole lot less than that. For that kind of m...

All the parts can be sourced very inexpensively from Mouser. I don't see why a kit is necessary unless it contains everything you need sans mic. Because Mouser and other electronics wholesalers sell quantity at discount. If one generous person (tubemonkey) is willing to coordinate such a bulk purch...

Might as well chime in. I've been schluffing one around for about a year now -- work picked it up as a tester, to see if it's something we can loan out to students, and I've been putting it through some paces. To be brief: I think it's great for the price, but it has some pretty painful limitations....

I've never heard a JC-120, so I don't know if I like one. In the past if I've needed more volume I just split out a DI to the house PA, and use my amp to self-monitor. I'm actually rather disinclined to stick a mic in front of a keyboard amp -- for recording it's all line-in and reamped if, for some...

stereo keyboard amps?
So I've been gigging for years now with a shitty little Crate practice amp -- sum my synth channels into a little mixer, and mono out to the amp. It's convenient -- small, about the right volume for the venues I show up in, and it doesn't weigh much. However, it's time for that little bastard to go....

A shout-out to Lippold Haken! I fell asleep in his class, *cough* I mean: studied DSP with him in college. Chad Dunn is a disgustingly good percussionist, and Tom Paynter - rocking the flute there in the stage scene - deserves to be playing for bigger audiences. Always nice to see good people gettin...

I looked at [Metric Halo], but aren't they only for Mac? Unfortunately, yes. They are non-discriminatory, however, with regards to PPC- vs intel-based macs, if that's any concern. The RME and Metric Halo stuff is certainly in another league. How so? Well it's actually a released product, and both h...

mics and pres for phonetics?
Hi guys - Sort of an out-of-the-blue question for the TOMB braintrust. I've been asked to assemble a recommendation list for a phonetics lab that's looking to upgrade. Their needs are pretty simple (snark): flat flat flat flat flatEQ curve; good transient response; loooow noise floor. Primarily they...
