My most recent thumbdrive was the OCZ ATV Turbo - the funky yellow one with stripes.

It seems to do pretty well for me.

The top of the line Corsair are supposed to be a little faster but cost a lot more.

I wish I had a stronger laptop to work with, though I like working in my 'room' or 'office' with the big computer.

I've done some stuff with people who use Mac Pro and Metric Halo firewire interface and it's very nice. They didn't record to anything external though.

I think that maybe the computer speed will have something to do with it as well.
Fast transfer rate can't hurt!

I always set buffers at their highest for location recording, and never do critical over dubbing with laptop and firewire. I also will record on location at lower resolution. This was only a first test and dual channel flash drives seem to do better than 5200 RPM external USB2. I haven't done the re...

OK, I wasn't able to record 8 tracks because I need to build 2 more XLR to TRS cables. What I did was recorded 3 stereo tracks at 88.2/32 bit float. This was into Samplitude v10.xx using Hybrid Engine (if that means anything to most) with 256ms buffer through ff800. No errors or dropouts with about ...

The USB flash drives will always read faster than they write. I can record up to 4 tracks at 88.2 on my Toshiba 5400 RPM USB external drive for location stuff. Any more and I would move to firewire. Just bought a 8GB OCZ dual channel stick because they are supposed to be significantly faster than ch...

Capturing Culture With a Microphone-

Kudos for including this article in Sept/Oct 2008 TapeOp. I have ordered 2 of the Bitone cds, one to donate to the local community radio station.

I wish I had more to offer them, but perhaps the radio station can raise a small amount of awareness.

I have an Epson cd printer as well as paper labels. My old Roxio 5 Premium stays installed only as a cd label printer and it allows me to choose different brands of labels, so I can shop the sales. For nice things I print directly on cd but for quickies and one offs the paper is faster and still loo...

I might be interested. K & K pricing is $64 a piece for the 2912s.

I have Cinemags already and they are very good but wouldn't mind trying Lundahls.

Any idea of the price?

I monitor pretty low so I can last longer. Occasionally I crank it just to see.

I was going to mention one of my MK-219PEs for sale on buy/sell, but noticed you have one already.

I agree that they are very nice, but one is enough for me.

FS - OktavaMod MK-219PE

Barely used - have 2 and only need one.

Look them up on www.oktavamod.com and make reasonable offer.

You might look at TriTone Digital stuff. Their stuff doesn't 'smash shit' but does a very nice job of shaping the sound and putting it where you want it.

Some very good sounding plugs.

I use PC but would love to try some of the Masey plug-ins.
