GarageBand!!
I would consider buying a mac-mini for 500 or 600 if I didn't already have a mac. The new garageband is super intuitive, and it comes with drummer, and it appears the pitch correction is along the lines of Melodyne. The first time I used it I bashed out a song in under an hour. Logic Pro X is super ...

Re: Niandra la des - John Frusciante
Does anyone know anything about the recording of this? Gear used? It's one of those albums that makes me feel you don't need more than a little tape machine to make a great record. :-) Seems like there's some 1176ish flavour to some of it though. Dince much of it was done while recording BSSM I'm s...

Re: Guitar amp tube compliment vs. power
A lot has to do with the pre-amp section. If it has a higher gain section, it will amplify more. I don't know what the numbers are right now, but if you get double the gain in the pre amp stage, your output gain should be doubled also. Another thing is the voltage used in the power stage. Tubes can...

Re: Guitar amp tube compliment vs. power
This is a question that's been bothering me for a while. How is the tube compliment of an amplifier related to its output power? I have a 15 watt 70s Princeton Reverb that has two 6L6s for the power section. I'm looking at getting a 40 watt Hot Rod Deluxe that also has two 6L6s. The 60 watt Deville...

mics
what about m/s? I agree that the easiest thing to do would be to get a matched pair and hard pan them to avoid phasing issues. ORTF would be the best if your target is headphones, x/y might be just as good for speakers.

Re: Re 5 watt combos, specifically the Bugera
I know it's a little redundant in light of the Marshall and lunchbox threads, butt is anyone currently using these real little amps, and doya like 'em? (Yes, I UTSF'd.) Specifically, I can getta Bugera for about US$100 used, locally; the reviews I find are pretty mixed, butt I'm wonderin' if that's...

My personal favorite lunchbox amp I lust over is the Egnater Rebel 20. Tube mix knob, bright switch, amazing amp. Not so much for high gain stuff, but that's not what I do much myself. +1. I have one of these, and it's an EXTREMELY versatile amp. Even if you wanted to do heavy rock and metal, it'll...

I have very fond memories of my "infinite track" recording. step one: Plug HR-16 drum machine and tele into Zoom 9002 rockman-esque headphone amp in same mixer into Realistic (Radio Shack) mixer step two: play guitar live to drum machine while recording on Boombox A. step three: Swap tape from Boom...

Metallica's 'and justice for all' is a great album with a terrible mix. No bass. Of course the 'Death Magnetic' album was over compressed. Nirvana 'Nevermind' is a great album that was produced (rough quote) "more Motley Crue than The Pixies" A lot of what the smashing pumpkins did after 'Siamese Dr...

Re: recc. for ambient music, instrumental, with a beat
well, preferably with a steady beat, but not mandatory. any download links? Thanks. I first thought of Labradford, not all of it has beats. Fixed : Context was what came to mind. If you are looking for more upbeat and electronic, Ulrich Schnauss has a good 80's vibe to it and it is all instrumental...
