Re: Toby and John Nady are scam artists
Duckmandu, Just PM'd you about this subject. I can't believe this post! I wish I had seen it before I got scammed. Toby Nady pulled almost the exact same thing on me, down to not disclosing the band practice rooms, but it's actually worse. Among the bait-and-switch techniques: All of our discussions...

In very basic terms a vacuum tube is just a device that amplifies an electrical signal. In and of itself it's not any better or worse than a transistor, a device also used to amplify a signal. If you are a guitar player you are probably aware of the difference in sound between a tube amp and a solid...

Damn. I really wanted a new RE20 for $250. Anyway, this is why I decided to ask a group of reasonable people about this, instead of a potential psycho. One of the funniest flame wars I've seen on craigslist was some dude accidentally listed a mexican P bass for $2500 instead of $250. It was clearly ...

new RE20 for $250?
Hey all, Some guy just got some shit on my local craigslist for wanting to sell an RE20 for $325. The "flamer" mentioned that an RE20 can be bought for $250 new and that $325 used is a bad deal. Is this true? I thought RE20's were over $400 new? But I know there are places like Full Compass that sel...

Interesting. So you would argue that the separate converter was an unnecessary purchase? You're getting almost the same performance from the BLA mod? As mentioned, I was considering the Lavry, but according to BLA, the Sig mod is at the Lavry Blue level. I could always take that money and put it in...

...aren't they getting the color of both the interface's analog section and the 3rd party pre? I've done A/B tests with my BLA modded 003 with an external preamp going into both a line in on the 003 and then into a converter via SPDIF into the 003. I found there to not be any significant difference...

Trodden, yes, that would be exactly my set up, just different brands of gear. That is awesome to hear I don't need any additional cables. So my plan will be to clock off the API A2D through SPDIF. The 003 will be set to "external". Cheapo converter will also be set to "external" and plugged into the...

Joel, so what you are saying is simply by plugging into the 003 (which is set to internal), as long as my slave devices are set to external, they are clocked to the 003. So are the BNC inputs simply for a situation where you have a dedicated clock source with multiple BNC outputs? Bro Shark, I'd lov...

Joel, thanks so much for the concise, yet detailed background info on clocking. I now know what I need to do when I get this new gear. Now, I still just need help with the nitty gritty. I like the idea of using the A2D as the master clock. But it only has a "sync in" (BNC). So I don't think that can...

clocking with three digital devices?
Assuming I need to clock... I have BLA modded 003 and I want to expand the number of channels using both the SPIDIF and ADAT inputs. On the hi end I plan to get and API A2D using the SPIDIF in on the 003. On the low end I plan to get a low-budget 8 channel A/D converter and use the ADAT lightpipe in...

Well, it sounds like too much of a project for me. I love the idea of refurbishing it. And I'm obsessive enough that that's what I'd do. But I can't get into that right now. I think my money would be better spent on a couple more good sounding pre's and some mics. So I will humbly remain...in the box!

Ryan, I see we are fellow competitors for the few gear deals on the SF bay area craigslist. Or are you the one selling the console? Joel, thanks for background info. I admit I saw the name Trident and got a little excited. But then quickly remembered most big companies usually have a budget line, wh...
