Re: Purple Audio

LA3s are ENTIRELY different from LA4s. They're both solid state optical units made by UREI, but that's about all they have in common, functionally. Oops...my bad. Sorry. I thought they were about the same, being solid state -- sort of like differences between revisions of the 1176. Sorry about that...

Re: Purple Audio

Bigtoe: If you want an LA3 and you haven't been put off them, you can check out OSA as they're beta testing an LA4-type compressor that'll fit in 500-series racks. The link is here: http://www.atlasproaudio.com/osa2.html Update: Sorry to pop back to what I was talking about earlier. I just wanted to...

Re: Purple Audio

I'm checking now with API and Brent Averill to make sure there aren't any problems and will post what I hear back on this board. It'd really suck if you can't use them all in the same racks, but so as to dispel any myths that I've heard and posted here, I'm making sure "from the Horse's Mouth." Jean...

Re: Purple Audio

Chris, Thanks for the post. I've read on different boards about this now. (Gearslutz, Recording.org, TapeOp if I remember right) From what I've read, it always seemed that API changed their stuff pretty recently. For example, people who had OSA and Brent Averill racks were buying new 500 series pre'...

Re: Purple Audio

Chris, Thanks. I know -- what I meant was the whole format, that they were all made to fit a certain "footprint" if you will, that they could be interchangable. Now, because API changed it, they're not. It was really a sidenote. Sorry - I should have made that clearer. It's just that I'm going this ...

Re: Purple Audio

Hey Dave (Soundguy), What's wrong with OSA? Just curious what your experience was regarding them and their build quality. Have you used Brent Averill? How's that in your opinion? I was under teh impression that they were all quality ... the only thing that I've got a gripe with is this whole thing o...
