thats pretty cool.

i like the ambience it has. was it mostly from the room or is there a lot of artificial reverb?

hmm, i would say youre probably right about guitars not really needing as much distortion as you would think. especially if you layer them. so thats one thing to try. also, i think one of the best ways to create separation and make it feel like everything has its own individual place is using front-...

The Haas effect and creating 'depth'

I was readinng the Bob Katz mastering book and in it he mentioned using short delays that would fuse with the direct sound due to the Haas effect and how it can be used to simulate the early reflections one might experience in a more reverberant room (i.e. if youre tracking is done in a dry room). T...

Finding/choosing a space

what are some things to look out for when trying to find a facility in which to locate your studio? specifically with regard to existing structures that were not originally designed for recording. some things that come to mind would be high ceilings, size, something that can be modified flexibly...b...

FS local DFW picku-up: 703 fiberglass panels 2"

I have a few extra 703 panels. probably around 6, but ill have to check for the exact count. they are 2" thick and some of them have the reflective foil paper on one side. Ill sell em for $10 a piece if you come pick them up, maybe even cut a deal if you want the lot of them. I live in Ft. Worth, PM...

I think the reasons these processes have remained fairly independent thus far are not things that will be rendered archaic as new technology and 'modernization' take hold. theres no arguing the ability to edit quickly and efficiently and try things out is greatly enhanced in the DAW, but being able ...

I'm thinking about installing 2" 703 on my ceiling, but can I really just nail it in there? Also, does it NEED to be wrapped in burlap or is that for aesthetic purposes only? Will it fall apart if I don't? yes you can. you can even leave a little air space between the panel and the ceiling. even 1 ...

ive seen that before, havent been able to find that book anywhere though. Sunflower and Surfs Up are two of my favorite Beach Boy albums, though much more from a songwriting than an engineering sandpoint. Id love to read that book though.

I'm interested in this too. Another interesting pair would be the Avensons. I'm trying to decide between those 3. My guess is that the Avenson's would be the most natural sounding but very dependent on your room. I wonder are the Josephson's brighter sounding than the Octavia's? I hate edgy soundin...
