Be sure you get a FW800 external hard drive instead of a FW400 drive. That will be your limiting factor. Though the new MacIntel architecture has a slower bus it is overall more efficient and will actually be a step up rather than step down. Also, make sure you max out the RAM. I think the new MacBo...

Replacing drums? While your at it why don't you get one of those virtual singers and record guitars with a POD. Hell, have the computer write your songs too while you're at it! What the fuc is wrong with people, drum replacement? What happened to the soul of music? Its NUANCE people, that is what ma...

Yeah, it might make a neat little guitar rig. It looks like you have a tape machine and a second power amp for stereo playback. Both units would take little to get running and could actually be great little guitar amps. How much do you know about modifying gear? If you're handy with stuff I'd say fo...

Focusrite Liquid Mix - Anyone Try It? Is it Out?

Hi, I am interested in the Liquid Mix from Focusrite. It seems like a great deal for the money. I'm also interested in maybe the SSL Duende or Waves SSL package as other possibilities. Anyone use those either? Any comparisons? I have a 2.0 Ghz/2GB Macbook Pro and want some kind of plug-in/hardware p...

I am not familiar with the NS-40's but I do have a set of NS-30T's that I use to listen to mixes on. They are nothing like NS-10's but they do seem to translate well to most other speakers in the same way NS-10's do (if it sounds good on these it sounds good anywhere). I bought my pair of NS-30T's f...

FA: Otari MX 7308 Parting Out 499 1" Tape Stock Synths

I have a lot of stuff on ebay right now. I am completely parting out an Otari MX-7308 1" 8 track Machine. I have the tape electronics, manual, power cord, headstack cover, Quantegy and Ampex 1" 499 (One-time-use, properly stored) Tape Stock, plus a whole orchestra of circuit-bent synths, drum machin...

Well, I was very pleased with the results of Matt's mod on the analog stage of the 828 mkII that I sent him. A friend of mine has a stock 828 mkII that I was able to compare it to not just in playback but also for recording. Wow, what a difference. I did some recordings with each, same signal path, ...

I got mine back after Matt had it for less than two weeks. I think thats pretty good turnaround. I like his scheduling and pay when its done practice. it must really make stuff move through his shop. Anyway, so I am remixing something that I had recorded entirely on my unmodified 828 mkII. I have mi...

Solovox Tube Synthesizer?

I just bought one of these off of ebay for $50, but it has no keyboard. I was thinking about ditching the keyboard all together and modifying it, making it modular and remotely controllablelike a good little modern synth module. My question is, does anyone have any in depth info on this device? Its ...

Well, it looks like I got Matt's last slot for December. I think with this thread and one over at the MOTU site he got overrun with questions and orders which is partly why he is waiting until January to take on any more orders. It is just a one man operation. I had used the stock 828 mkII for almos...

I'm pretty sure it applies to all the ins and outs, at least thats the implication. I know he replaces all the opamps in the whole unit, including the headphone amp. I'm getting mine done ASAP. It should be a great peice of sleeper gear. Like everything esle I have, it might as well be modified. Jesse

A/B comparisons would be excellent, I don't see them on his site yet. I am going to go for the mod anyway, seems like something worth trying. I just got a MOTU 828 mkII on ebay for $430! I was expecting to pay at least $600 for one, so considering the price, the mod is almost free in my new rig budg...
