I was just about to post asking virtually the same thing. I write and record in the basement to keep myself from being bored (doing everything right now with an SM57 and a Tascam USB box). I was thinking of the AKG C2000, but now I'm reconsidering. I want to get something decent, not just a $100 con...

I've never heard of anyone who didn't adore Ben Gibbard's voice.johnny7 wrote:Your friend is nuts - that album is not too quiet. The problem is the singer's voice....

Re: Drummers... another stupid qestion.
Play heel down, and use a snap motion with your ankle like you do with your wrists and the sticks. I definitely think it makes a difference in tone; you allow your drum to breathe and resonate. My bass drum sounds very full. Play off your kit, not through it.

I really like his stuff. His voice reminds me of Ben Gibbard (Death Cab, Postal Service) in some songs.

Re: Check out this studio!!!
Wow. I'm listening through your PureVolume site and not only do the recordings sound great, but many of these songs are wonderful! I'm not so hot on the punk and such, but Andrew Norsworthy, Mercir, Joran, etc. are great! Makes me wish I lived out there in Seattle if I could see talented artists lik...

Re: musician vs. engineer...wheres the cash go?
I tried building my amplifier (www.ax84.com), but half-way through it I just decided that electronics are not fun. I let a professional finish it, and I built the housing for it. It sounds alright, basically a Fender Champ with whatever changes the guy did to the circuit (www.voodooamps.com).
