Following up on this- I was able to get a belt set from a seller on ebay named "marrscommunications". He didn't actually have model 80 belts available, but I sent him my old belts and he was able to get them made, and now he has sets available. He also has belts for other fostex models, and if you h...

Fostex model 80 capstan belt?

Does anybody know where I can get a capstan belt for a Fostex model 80 1/4" 8 track machine? My deck won't go into "play" anymore (FF & REW work), so I suspect it may need a new capstan belt. Also, does anybody know if a belt from a Fostex R8 would work? I found a source online for that.

The Danelectro Tuna Melt in the "hard" setting does this. The schematic here might give you some ideas: http://img185.imageshack.us/f/danotunamelt2li.jpg/ (I think this schematic is not 100% correct- I think if q2 is connected as drawn it wouldn't work, but if you switch collector and base on q2 it ...

Yeah, it was- but if you go to buy a CD of it, it will say "Wendy".

For a classic example of what a modular synth can do, listen to "Switched on Bach" by Wendy Carlos. I believe the entire thing was done using a Moog modular, and polyphonic parts were created using multi-tracking rather than multiple oscillators. Of course, that method takes a lot of time and patien...

Here's a great article on interfacing various types of balanced/unbalanced connections:

BTW, if you're handy with a soldering iron, you could just get an rca-rca snake and cut off the connectors on one end and replace them with xlrs.

I use the RSM-5s, which are similar. They sound great, they sort of mellow out the cymbals in a nice way. I use them in a Blumlein configuration.
They sound really good on some guitar cabs, too.

Re: Tascam 424 MIDI synchronization

I'm wondering whether it's possible to synchronize (using MIDI) 4 Tascam 424's together. No. There are tape machines that you can synchronize (using additional hardware), but that requires using 1 of your audio tracks for timecode, and the tape machine has to be capable of synchronizing, which I th...

Are you sure about the input impedance of the reverb tank? According to that page, the input impedance ranges from 10 ohms to 1925 ohms, depending on which version you have. Maybe yours is actually the 10 ohm version (rather than 10k)? You probably need to drive it with something stronger, like mayb...

I was going through a bunch of my old vinyl records yesterday, and pulled out "Can't Stand The Rezillos" and I happened to notice that it was produced & engineered by Bob Clearmountain. I hadn't listened to it in years, so I put it on and it sounded great! I guess I don't have any specific questions...

You also say you have a big CRT - those can generate a lot of noise, depending on where they are placed, etc... Try turning the CRT off and see if the noise goes away. When I switched from a CRT to LCD display, it helped a lot.
