I've been using the BCF2000 now for 2-3 years. It does a pretty good job for handing fader functions and panning. It's probably the best deal out their in it's price category.

How do you like the Behri controller Shaggy? I almost bought an Alphatrack with the $$ I spent on the desk. Still thinking about a controller. I miss faders. While it can do more, I mainly just use it for volume and panning adjustments. I also tend to use it to stop/start the transport as well. If ...

I've been able to fit quite a bit on mine as you can see here: http://www.pureshift.com/images/studio/IMG_2884.jpg While it is particle board, mine has held up pretty well over the past year or so. So far the only problems I've had was with one of the wheels. It got caught on some carpet and complet...

Good music can be made with cheap equipment or the top of the line gear. The same goes for bad music. What really counts is that you know as much as you can about the tools you have so that you can get the most out of it. The best tool you have is yourself. A $3000 converter is a waste on someone wh...

I bought Line 6 gearbox not too long ago since it's now a close out item (Line 6 is coming out with something new). So far I've been able to dial in just about any tone I need with it but you really have to look beyond the presets that it comes with. It's a pretty good deal right now at $99.

Yeah, build a pultec and tell me it isn't the sweetest thing ever.... my studio is about 70% DIY gear. If you have a decent job then DIY is just a hobby, your wage can buy you some nice gear and you can take the time to do cool stuff, if your wage is low (like mine) than DIY allows you access to a ...

Another plus to DIY-ing things is the ability to tailor your existing equipment to your needs. Most of the DIY work I do is for guitar, so if I decide I want a wah that's a little more bassy, an amp that sounds more 'open', or a guitar pickup configuration that's not commercially available, it is p...

Started work on a collab project with a guy in California. His band recently broke up and I'm working with him to finish some recorded material. It's paid work and it's fun considering that it's my first time working with Japanese rock music. I also sat down with the 'Electronic Projects for Musicia...

You can get JLM Audio kits and Seventh Circle kits. It sounds like you have more experience than most of the people that buy them. You'll do fine. You'll be happy too. Reading the first Tape Op book has really sparked my interest in electronics again after being away from it for a long time. I may ...

Oh, I know it's not going to be exactly cheap. I pretty much have most of the necessary tools already, though, and this is something that I do want to do. I have the time and the ability but I'm interested in what projects might be the best to hit. I don't necessarily need to just get into buying ki...

Caught the DIY bug

So, here's the deal. I have a fair amount of gear and I'm able to record at a decent quality. Now, now it is high dollar for the most part but I've learned to make due with what I have. I would eventually like to upgrade in certain departments, though. I could use a couple of better sounding preamps...

Bahh. Pro Tools sucks...this sucks...that sucks. They're tools people! I've used nearly all of the 'big boy' software (and some of the not so 'big boy' software) and they all have their merits. It's what's best for the person sitting in front of the machine that matters. I've said this many times bu...

I got rid of a lot of the free VSTs that I used to have, though. I spent more time playing with them than making music. Yeah... I went through that... Wooo!!! Free plugins!!! Next thing you know, your system's bogged down with buggy plugs... Start slow and be judicious... YMMV... I've gotten to the...

In life, marriage and recording...you have to learn to choose your battles wisely. Some things are worth standing your ground. Some times you have to bow to another persons 'wisdom'. There are also the times where you just have to own up to your mistakes. The trick is knowing when to choose the righ...
