Transferring files from DP to Pro Tools - HELP!

Hey folks, I have a bit of a situation I was hoping to get someone's help with. I'm about to mix a record that was tracked in Digital Performer (not sure of version or OS, but I can find out). I have asked the engineer who tracked it to send me consolidated WAV files so I can mix in Pro Tools. The e...

OK, so I don't know whether to feel really stupid or be glad that the solution ended up being remarkably simple, but most of the problem songs are not problems any more. Wanna know what did it? Removing about 2-4db between 100 and 150. I really can't believe it wasn't the first thing I tried, but it...

Wow, great stuff, guys! First off, I should have mentioned in my original post that I am indeed compressing the hell out of both busses; I'm a compression junkie and have never met a bass I didn't compress to some degree. I'll definitely experiment with adjusting the HPF, I'm always nervous about se...

Yeah, I was wondering how many phase problems I was introducing with the double-bussing, but so far it has only made it clearer, just not quite clear enough. I'll mess around with the HPF, thanks for the suggestion!

Mixing Bass

Hey guys! I'm mixing a record right now that was tracked in several different studios and some of the bass sounds are kickass and really easy to place in a mix, while others are proving a little more difficult. I'll do the best job I can describing the problem: When I listen to the records the band ...

I got one because I've always loved Trident and Daking pres and one of these Toft thingies came up on CL for $400, so I pulled the trigger. So far, I'm pretty happy. The pres aren't nearly as cool as Trident and Daking, but the EQ is pretty great and the pres are definitely useable. Still haven't de...

Toft AFC owners: ringing?

Hey folks! I recently got a Toft AFC-2 and while so far I really like this thing, I have noticed that when I crank the gain knob on the HF, especially in the top range of the frequency pot, I get a really bad ringing/feedback sound. Is this typical, or is mine broken? I'm familiar with the way that ...

You might want to check out Lucid stuff, they make 2 and 8 channel AD/DA converters that are very wallet-friendly, especially used. I have never used one personally, but an engineer I know who consistently does amazing work used one for years and speaks very highly of it.

OSA Pres: where's the love?

A couple friends of mine have now said that they've tried one or two OSA pres and really liked them. I'm buying a bunch of gear next month and plan to include two channels of 500 series preamps, so naturally I was curious about the OSA stuff. I was doing some research and on both this forum and GS a...

I don't fully understand this thread, but if the point is to gather opinions on Superlux mics then I will posit mine: they are terrible. Superlux mics were the first mics I ever owned, I still actually have a couple around (so maybe they're durable?) and all 5 of them sound really, really bad. Just ...

I really like Weber speakers, I've been relying on them pretty heavily for the last few years. I have a Blue Dog and a 12A125 and I really dig em. I think they're great replacements for Fenders, and the Blue Dogs are pretty dang Vox-y too. Ted Weber passed away very recently and I know that they wer...

+1,000

My experience with Istanbuls is that they are consistently musical, balanced, and have a harmonic complexity that I haven't really heard in too many other cymbals other than K Zildjian (my second fave) or Paiste Signatures (also kickass).
