If that's your machine, you may have laced it up wrong. I'll admit I don't have a manual for mine, but I think the tape is supposed to go through the tape guide, not around it. That might possibly be your problem.
Try setting it up like mine, and see if it helps...

Mine is quite beaten-up and the echos are kind of distorted - the heads have seen better days, mind. It also has a pitch blip when the splice hits the capstan so the motor might be on its way out too. It's the only dedicated tape delay I've ever had so I can't really do a comparison - but I do know ...

If you can find a Binson in great working condition (very rare, usually they are barely working or not working. Kinda like Optigans...) for $800 it would be a steal. I spent more than that just getting my refurbished... This was a few years ago. The price seems to have risen very sharply since. I s...

really? What is this aversion people have to LEDs. I even see customer revies of computer and audio gear in which people complain that the led is too bright? I don't know... it's just the sudden overuse of the blue ones which bugs me somehow. Perhaps it's because I've been trying to recreate a stud...

I think it has to be the recorders: http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k216/tapewolf/tape/tascam.jpg (I have two - the other one doesn't look quite so pretty as the rack is bronze-coloured) This might not count since it's a bit ratty cosmetically speaking, but hey, I'm pretty sure it's older than I a...

Somehow the Roland just seems to make more sense to me. Now I have a Binson Echorec back from the shop to get in the mix too. Oh, I really wanted one of those (the Binson). $800 was a bit too much, though. As for the Tascam 38, something which would be cool if you can manage it would be getting it ...

I normally use a WEM Copicat, which I've come to use almost without fail on vocals. Mine has been modified to have a RUN/STOP switch, probably to save wear on the tape loop, but you can also get some nice effects by setting it into feedback and hitting STOP - so far I've ended two songs that way. I ...

...looks like it wants 9v AC at 4000mA. It shouldn't be too hard to obtain a compatible power supply but do note that it wants AC - probably to convert to 48v phantom power. Feeding it DC is likely to do very bad things.

I'm not a guitarist so I don't use pedals too much. My absolute favourite is the H&K Rotosphere which my Hammond XM-1 is permanently attached to, but at a pinch I could use the internal leslie sim. For vocals, everything I do now (except narration, obviously) is always done through a Watkins Copicat...

Re: Looking into a 'new' 2 track recorder
Right now I see a few for sale that have my interest: A Revox B77HS, Revox PR99, Tascam 32-2, Philips N4520 (4 track, not sure if that's wise?) and an Otari MTR15 1/4". The Otari is a bit big and I doubt I have the budget for it (I reckon I could go up to 600 euro for the Otari) and that's one of t...

Perhaps this really belongs in DIY Gear, but it was my solution to the mellotron problem. I have big problems with software synths, they just don't seem to want to integrate with the system properly, but I couldn't afford a Memotron (and I'm not sure it's out yet anyway). The real thing is right out...

Re: accessing calibration controls on tascam 38?
hey there all... I'd like to align my 38, but don't know where the screws are or how to get to them. I tried to take off the front cover but realized that it was one big piece. What do i do? I don't think you'll need to take the cover off unless you want to get at the mechanism (capstan belt etc). ...
