Re: How to remove Sharpie marks?
Orange Fantastic is the stuff. I tried the knock off brand and it didn't work as well. Spring for the good stuff! I use it all the time on all kinds of gear. It takes away marker, sticky goo, grease, etc. It's magic! What will remove sharpie marks from an aluminum panel? The tech that racked a pre f...

That's like asking what's wrong with my car... It could be a million different things. Do you have a service manual for these machines? If not find one quick. It will make your life a bit easier and it's going to give you all the specs for your machine. First check all the voltages and make sure the...

Why not to have drinks in the control room
This is the result of a client spilling their drink on top of the console. It dribbled down the monitors, down the meter bridge, and deciced to settle at the bottom of the backplane connector. It was a sad day! It's been repaired, but can you imagine the cloud of smoke that came from this when it ha...

Re: how much money should i get!?
i'm not sure what is standard for an asst engineer to be paid for 3 weeks of work. anybody know who has been in a similar situation? If it's a well know place and it's for that long, then chances are they have some sort of budget. I would hope the engineer would pay an assistant at least $15/hr. pl...

Re: What's the best deal in a 2 ch. AD/DA unit these days?
Yup, i like how Apogee converters sound, but I certainly don't have a problem with something quote un-quote more transparent. Anyway, what do you guys think is the best deal these days, if one were to require 2 ch. of AD and DA. ? I just finished installing a CraneSong Hedd up at one of the studios...

IF you can rack them yourself then go for it. It's just another pre to add to your collection. Once they have power and you get them working, then experiment with other IC's to get different sounds out of the pre/eq. I don't think you would get much out of them if you tried to sell them on ebay, but...

RE-20 is my choice. Also dig the sm-7 sometimes, and I have been playing with a ns-10 speaker (with the tweeter disconnected) about three to four feet away from the bass through a radial DI. I dig what you can do with that source. Wouldn't use it as my main sound, but it has come in handy for some o...
